The Giants then selected <a data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/colleges\/ohio_state_buckeyes\/48\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/colleges\/ohio_state_buckeyes\/48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio State<\/a><span>\u00a0pass-rusher<span>\u00a0<\/span><a data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/college_football\/players\/arvell_reese\/921176\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/college_football\/players\/arvell_reese\/921176\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arvell Reese<\/a> at pick No. 5 before the club grabbed Miami tackle<span>\u00a0<\/span><a data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/college_football\/players\/francis_mauigoa\/913775\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/college_football\/players\/francis_mauigoa\/913775\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Francis Mauigoa\u00a0<\/a>with the 10th overall choice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Recently,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7240663\/2026\/04\/30\/nfl-draft-2026-nfc-rams-ty-simpson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Mike Sando<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0of The Athletic spoke with multiple team executives who made it clear they don&#8217;t love some of the moves the Giants made this offseason.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Will the Giants regret not drafting Sonny Styles over Arvell Reese?<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>&#8220;They should have drafted (Ohio State linebacker) Sonny Styles, because he\u2019s the one that got Reese lined up every day, and I think was better than Reese,&#8221; one executive said about the Giants. &#8220;Reese just disappeared in some of those games. They are talking about playing him off the ball, but if they wanted an off-the-ball linebacker, take Styles. He\u2019d be the leader, the captain, the culture, the play style \u2014 everything you want from (Giants head coach) <a data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/players\/john_harbaugh\/126239\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/players\/john_harbaugh\/126239\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Harbaugh&#8217;s<\/a> guy.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/interactive\/the-beast-2026\/top-100-prospect-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Dane Brugler<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0of The Athletic was among the analysts who ranked Reese as the best overall player in this year&#8217;s draft class. That said,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/video\/clip\/_\/id\/48446568\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>ESPN&#8217;s Kevin Clark<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0said in April that he believes Styles will eventually be seen as the best player drafted this spring.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span>Did the Giants have to trade Dexter Lawrence II?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>&#8220;I just don\u2019t feel like there is much of a plan,&#8221; a different executive said about the Giants. &#8220;Did they replace Dexter Lawrence? You can\u2019t keep on trading your good players. You aren\u2019t gonna replace Dexter Lawrence with the 10th pick in most drafts, let alone this one. And considering the amount of money that Dexter Lawrence signed for\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/bengals_place_another_big_bet_on_dt_dexter_lawrence_ii_with_one_year_28m_extension\/s1_13132_43746925h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>(one-year, $28M extension),<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0like, how could you not get that done? What happened?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Lawrence\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/why_giants_traded_dexter_lawrence_ii_to_bengals_instead_of_prolonging_contract_standoff\/s1_13132_43748628\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>reportedly<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0wanted to leave the Giants for an advertised contender this offseason. Meanwhile, there&#8217;s a perception that Harbaugh was fine with trading a player who clearly wasn&#8217;t all in on the club&#8217;s latest reset.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For what it&#8217;s worth, a fourth executive was a fan of the Giants&#8217; moves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are going to run a lot of exotic fronts where they are positionless chess pieces, so you don\u2019t know who is rushing,&#8221; that executive said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/giants_may_not_be_done_replacing_dexter_lawrence_ii_despite_shelby_harris_news\/s1_13132_43786222\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Currently,<\/a> the Giants are on track to have Reese, <a data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/players\/kayvon_thibodeaux\/652205\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/players\/kayvon_thibodeaux\/652205\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kayvon Thibodeaux<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/players\/brian_burns\/615158\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brian Burns<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/players\/abdul_carter\/898986\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abdul Carter<\/a> on the roster this fall.
