I live in Girona, it&#8217;s a beautiful course, it&#8217;s demanding, it&#8217;s super difficult, it&#8217;s super technical, it has a lot of climbing. It&#8217;s got everything, and you really need to be a complete rider to be able to do a good race here. So I&#8217;m extremely proud of what I&#8217;ve done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, asked if he might go for the triple and try to win the 560 race, W\u00fcrtz Schmidt told <em>Cyclingnews, <\/em>&#8220;Never ever, never never never. I&#8217;m back on the 200 next year. Then on the long climb in the north, it was basically Axelle and me, but I turned around once and saw Gee pretty darn close, so she was definitely putting in a good job, but then I decided it was go time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;Sometimes it&#8217;s good getting your ass kicked at the race before, because then you really want it, and today I made it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">The Traka 360, which was actually only 325km in 2026, started early in the morning on Friday and quickly hit the climbs with 4,150m of elevation gain, with the three largest sections of climbs in the 80% gravel course starting at just 6km into the day of racing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Another round kicked off at about 120km in, and then a little over 100km later, an additional set of substantial climbing arrived, though even after that, it was not the end of the uphill. The last of the climbing concluded with under ten kilometres to go, and then it was a largely downhill run to the Girona finish line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">The Traka continues on Saturday with the 200, whilst riders in the 560 Adventure race set out on Friday for more than 24 hours of racing.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-elite-men\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"article-body__section\" id=\"section-elite-men\"><span>Elite men<\/span><\/h3>\n<p id=\"elk-e8ebc281-9fca-4f15-a923-d10563523815\">In the men&#8217;s race, W\u00fcrtz Schmidt followed in the footsteps of Tobias Kongstad&#8217;s mammoth solo last year, going solo with more than 100km to race and building a lead of several minutes over the chasers to claim a dominant victory.<\/p>\n<p>There was a large chasing group in pursuit of the European champion, but even their strength in numbers couldn&#8217;t match his solo strength, and they were left fighting for second, 12 minutes down going into the final kilometres.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s Ben Perry launched an attack from the chasers in the final 6km on singletrack to get away from the group and try to grab the runner-up spot, but was chased down by Hugo Drechou, who passed him and proved strongest in the finale, riding to second.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Beers set off to try and reel Drechou back in, using his mountain bike skills in the technical finale to shake off Romain Bardet, and he nearly made it. The South African could see Drechou on the finishing grass stretch, but couldn&#8217;t quite catch the Frenchman and settled for third on the line, making it a 1-3 for Specialized Off-Road.<\/p>\n<p>Perry&#8217;s late efforts were rewarded with fourth, whilst Bardet took fifth. Defending champion Tobias Kongstad couldn&#8217;t repeat his win from 2025, settling for seventh, 16:25 down on the winner.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-elite-women\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"article-body__section\" id=\"section-elite-women\"><span>Elite women<\/span><\/h3>\n<p id=\"elk-b9ec855c-6771-4ceb-a729-6e65e970dbe7\">The women&#8217;s race was also won solo, and the front of the racing stayed closer for only slightly longer than the men&#8217;s race, after Kl\u00f6ser herself had forced an early selection over the first climbs.<\/p>\n<p>A small elite group formed in the first 200km of racing, eventually whittling down to just two, in Kl\u00f6ser and Dubau-Pr\u00e9vot, having dropped Geerike Scheurs and a problem for defending champion Migo\u0144.<\/p>\n<p>Former Unbound winner Kl\u00f6ser then put the hammer down on a climb with just over 90km to go to dispatch with the French champion.<\/p>\n<p>Kl\u00f6ser had a lead of three minutes after only 20 more kilometres, which initially looked closeable for Dubau-Pr\u00e9vot, with Scheurs also only a few minutes back, but despite the best efforts from the two chasers, the gaps only got bigger, not smaller, as the riders spread across the course in the final hours of racing.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Kloser would pull out a lead of nearly 13 minutes over Dubau-Pr\u00e9vot, who had to settle for second once again, whilst Scheurs seemed happy with third.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the field came over the line in dribs and drabs, with gaps of over an hour even
