Individuals associated with the New England Patriots<\/a> continue to go through a unique offseason due to the controversy involving head coach Mike Vrabel<\/a> and longtime NFL<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>reporter\u00a0<\/span>Dianna Russini<\/a> that is going to hover over the club throughout the summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n Recently, NFL insider Jason La Canfora of FanSided spoke with multiple league executives who painted gloomy pictures of what the Patriots could experience coming off their trip to the Super Bowl this past February.\u00a0<\/p>\n “I was just looking at them,” one unnamed high-ranking AFC club official\u00a0<\/span>said<\/span><\/a>\u00a0about the Patriots. “<\/span>Last in sacks allowed. [Quarterback Drake Maye] gets hit 121 times, that\u2019s the most. The left tackle isn\u2019t a left tackle. I\u2019m with you. The schedule is much tougher with them winning a division now. Put the Vrabel stuff aside. I think they\u2019re in trouble. Didn\u2019t like their redzone offense. They rely heavily on the run. The defense, bad in the red zone. They don\u2019t have enough impact defensive linemen. Look at their sacks, plus pressures, plus QB hits. I\u2019ve got them 31st in the league.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Numerous members of the football community said throughout the 2025 campaign that the Patriots’\u00a0<\/span>“easy schedule”<\/a> was a big reason that the club claimed the division title and then accumulated enough momentum to emerge as the champions of the AFC. Meanwhile, that club official seemingly was referencing how 2025 rookie left tackle Will Campbell endured a nightmare<\/a> outing in New England’s loss to the<\/span> As Aaliyan Mohammed\u00a0<\/a>of NESN noted, 2026 first-round draft pick\u00a0<\/span>Caleb Lomu spent time at left tackle on Saturday during the Patriots’ rookie minicamp. It remains to be seen if Lomu will play at that position later this summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n “There is nowhere for them to go but down,” a general manager added while speaking about the Patriots with La Canfora. “Kansas City<\/a> is going to be back. Baltimore<\/a> should be better. Cincinnati<\/a> is better. I don’t think New England got better.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n New England may get better<\/a> if the club acquires Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> wide receiver A.J. Brown, as expected. However, such a trade won’t become official before June 1 for\u00a0<\/span>reasons<\/a>\u00a0related to the salary cap.<\/span><\/p>\n The Patriots reportedly<\/a> have no interest in parting ways with Vrabel despite all that has been learned about the coach and Russini, who are married to other people, spending time together in multiple places from at least March 2020 through this past March. If Vrabel decides that he again<\/a> needs to step away from the Patriots at any point between now and January, that decision could put yet another obstacle in front of New England players for what is already going to be a challenging season for them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\nAre the Patriots about to go through a letdown season?<\/h2>\n
