The Tasmania JackJumpers have made a major statement ahead of the 2026-27 NBL season, re-signing foundation star Will Magnay to a new two-year deal that will keep him at the club for seven consecutive seasons.<\/p>\n

Join now and get your first month for just $1.<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n Magnay\u2019s extension continues a journey that began when the JackJumpers first entered the league in 2021, with the 27-year-old growing into one of the club\u2019s most important figures both on and off the court.<\/p>\n The 6\u201910\u201d big man was one of the biggest names entering this off-season\u2019s free agency period alongside Sam Waardenburg and Sam Mennenga. His re-signing with the Tasmania JackJumpers now shifts the wider market, with rival clubs forced to look elsewhere in what is becoming an increasingly thin pool of local big men.<\/p>\n The captain is coming off one of the strongest seasons of his career in terms of availability, appearing in 24 games, his highest total since arriving in Tasmania, before an acute fracture to the second toe on his left foot ruled him out for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.<\/p>\n Since joining the club, Magnay has become a cornerstone of the JackJumpers\u2019 culture and identity, helping lead the franchise to its historic 2023-24 championship while also cementing himself as one of the premier defensive big men in the NBL.<\/p>\n In a statement released by the club, head coach Scott Roth said he was thrilled to retain one of the club\u2019s longest-serving leaders.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not too often that you get to coach a player for this many years,\u201d Roth said.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s had so many ups and downs, and he\u2019s grown from strength to strength from every one of those moments. Looking at where he is now is really something special to me.<\/p>\n \u201cHe came in to the team as a young kid, just starting to find his way on and off the court.<\/p>\n \u201cHe became a Boomer, made the Olympics, won a championship, became Captain, and on the journey, he has really grown into a great player and leader.<\/p>\n \u201cTo have more time with him is just personally wonderful, and I know Tasmania will be really excited to have him back too.\u201d<\/p>\n Magnay\u2019s resum\u00e9 continues to grow. Alongside his championship success, he claimed the NBL\u2019s Most Improved Player award in 2020 during his time with the Brisbane Bullets and has earned four club Defensive Player of the Year honours in Tasmania.<\/p>\n He also sits atop the JackJumpers\u2019 all-time rankings for rebounds with 532 and blocks with 150.<\/p>\n Speaking on the new deal, Magnay said remaining in Tasmania was an easy decision.<\/p>\n
