Talks between the New Zealand Breakers and experienced head coach Gordon Herbert have reached a stalemate, with the veteran now expected to step away from consideration for the role left vacant by Petteri Koponen.<\/p>\n

The Breakers had been in advanced discussions with Herbert, according to sources, as the club explored a high-profile appointment to lead them into the next NBL season.<\/p>\n

Herbert, 67, is regarded as one of Europe\u2019s most accomplished coaches, with a strong resum\u00e9 across both club and international basketball. He has led major European programs including Bayern Munich and is best known for his success on the international stage, credentials that would have immediately lifted the Breakers\u2019 profile.<\/p>\n

However, discussions have now broken down, leaving New Zealand to continue its search for a new head coach.<\/p>\n

The reason for the impasse remains unclear, but the Breakers will be encouraged by the ambition shown in pursuing one of the sport\u2019s most respected figures.<\/p>\n

It marks another twist in what has already been a challenging coaching hunt, with the club previously missing out on Mody Maor, Judd Flavell and now Herbert.<\/p>\n

Despite those setbacks, the direction is clear: New Zealand remains intent on securing a proven, high-level coach with strong international experience as it looks to reset ahead of the new campaign.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
