Former Australia opener Chris Rogers<\/a><\/strong> has extended his stint as Victoria\u2019s head coach for another two years, committing to the role until the conclusion of the 2027-28 domestic season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The extension comes after Rogers guided Victoria to their third Sheffield Shield final in the last five seasons. However, the side fell heartbreakingly short in the 2025-26 summit clash against South Australia despite dominating large parts of the season and registering a record-equalling seven wins in the tournament.<\/p>\n

Victoria\u2019s campaign ended in disappointment after a dramatic batting collapse while chasing a modest 196-run target in the final. Under Rogers, the team has consistently remained among the top-performing sides in Australian domestic cricket since he took charge in late 2020.<\/p>\n

Apart from their Shield success, Victoria also reached the One Day Cup final in the 2024-25 season, where they again finished runners-up to South Australia at the Adelaide Oval.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his extension, Rogers expressed pride in the progress made by the group while stressing the desire to achieve greater success in the coming years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a privilege to coach Victoria and continue building on the strong history of this programme. We\u2019ve worked hard to create an environment where players can develop, challenge themselves and ultimately perform consistently for Victoria,\u201d Rogers was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of what this group has achieved over the past few seasons, but there\u2019s still a strong hunger within the playing group to keep improving and ultimately bring more success to Victorian cricket,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Despite missing out on silverware during his tenure so far, Cricket Victoria\u2019s management has shown strong faith in Rogers, particularly for building a competitive squad largely made up of homegrown talent.<\/p>\n

Victoria\u2019s General Manager of Cricket Performance, Graham Manou, lauded Rogers for the culture he has built within the setup.<\/p>\n

\u201cChris has done an outstanding job leading this group during an important period for Victorian cricket. What stands out most is the environment and culture he has helped create. Victoria is represented by people who work together, respect history, keep pushing forward, and back effort with action. Chris embodies those values every day,\u201d Manou said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The state side has also managed to retain the core of its squad ahead of next season. While players like D\u2019Arcy Short and Glenn Maxwell are not part of the current contracts list due to franchise commitments, both remain interested in representing Victoria whenever available.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
