Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB<\/a>) cricketer Wasim Jaffer<\/a> criticised Punjab Kings (PBKS<\/a>) captain Shreyas Iyer<\/a> after their sixth consecutive loss in IPL 2026. Punjab suffered a 23-run loss against RCB.<\/p>\n Batting first, Bengaluru posted a total of 222\/4. Punjab fell short, getting to 199\/8 in the end. They lost both their openers in quick succession, followed by Shreyas Iyer as well. He was dismissed for a single run and in a similar pattern, edging the ball behind to the wicket-keeper.<\/p>\n Wasim Jaffer reckoned that the batting line-up was too dependent on Shreyas to score big.<\/p>\n “Shreyas Iyer is being dismissed in the same way. The batting line-up is depending a lot on him, the way he plays and paces his innings. It is a very disappointing season. Now they will have to depend on a lot of other teams. First of all, they need to win their last match. If they do not qualify this season, it will become history,” he said on his YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n <\/template><\/p>\n Following their sixth straight loss, Punjab are now fourth on the table with 13 points from as many games. For them to qualify for the playoffs, they not only need to win their final league game but also have to depend on other results to go their way.<\/p>\n Wasim Jaffer was also disappointed with Punjab’s bowling and the fact that Shreyas Iyer has been unable to get the best out of his bowlers. He reckoned that the skipper must take responsibility for the slump and failing to turn things around at a crucial stage of the tournament.<\/p>\n “Shreyas has not been able to inspire his bowlers. It is 13 games now, and the same mistakes are being repeated. He will have to take the ownership, he has not been able to get the work done from his bowlers. It is very disappointing. When they were at the top, we were praising him, but now you are not able to turn things around and get things right,” he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Further, Jaffer also pointed out how Punjab have conceded over 200 runs regularly this season, failing to create impact as a bowling unit.<\/p>\n “80-90% of the time, their bowling has conceded over 200 runs and in such a long tournament, things have not improved. That trend has continued. Be it Arshdeep, Bartlett, Ferguson, Jansen, or Chahal. You have that pedigree of bowlers, but it has been disappointing.
