Last summer Arsenal<\/a> had a big decision to make. They needed goals and simply had to sign a new striker.<\/p>\n

While the likes of Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko headed to Liverpool and Manchester United, the Gunners ended up with Viktor Gyokeres.<\/p>\n

He has struggled for large parts of the campaign, predominantly when it comes to build-up play and leading the attack. Yet, very few can doubt his goalscoring ability.<\/p>\n

He is Arsenal’s top scorer this term with 21 and has scored nine times in his last 14 Premier League<\/a> outings. He’s coming good and growing into his role all the time. Sure, he might not live up to Thierry Henry’s famous number 14, but who does?<\/p>\n

Gyokeres has been looking over his shoulder for much of the campaign and that does not look set to stop heading into next season.<\/p>\n

\n Big-money striker wants to join Arsenal<\/strong>
\n <\/h2>\n

The Swede has struggled with consistency this term but he can thank his lucky stars that Kai Havertz<\/a> has missed plenty of the season with injury.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the German demonstrated his prowess against Burnley on Monday, rising like a salmon to head home Bukayo Saka’s corner. It was the game’s only goal as the Gunners won 1-0.<\/p>\n

As a result, just who starts the remaining two games, including the Champions League final, will be fascintating. After Monday night, perhaps the German is leading the race to lead the line.<\/p>\n

Who will head up the attack next season, however? Well, Havertz and Gyokeres beware, one of the continent’s best young forwards could be on their way to the Emirates Stadium.<\/p>\n

Reports in April indicated that Arsenal had opened talks<\/a> to sign Bayern Leverkusen wonderkid Christian Kofane and since then, the player has reportedly made his feelings clear on where he wants to be next season.<\/p>\n

Indeed, according to Talking Arsenal<\/a> who broke that original story last month, Arsenal are Kofane’s ‘priority’ heading into the summer window, indicating he would very much like to join Mikel Arteta’s side.<\/p>\n

That said, it could take a premium to prise him away from Leverkusen. The player’s agent has previously revealed<\/a> that he is a \u20ac100m (\u00a387m) player in waiting.<\/p>\n

\n Why Kofane would be such a good signing for Arsenal<\/strong>
\n <\/h2>\n

It’s actually rather rare in recent years that Arteta has looked towards a foreign market to bring new signings to the Emirates.<\/p>\n

Last summer, while he did welcome the likes of Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga from the Premier League.<\/p>\n

In recent years, you can add the likes of David Raya, Declan Rice and Havertz to that category too. Out of the trio, it is certainly the German who has raised the most question marks.<\/p>\n

When he arrived from Chelsea in a \u00a365m deal back in 2023, he was touted to be the club’s Granit Xhaka replacement. He has been about as far from that as you can image. Instead of starring in midfield, Havertz has become a leading centre-forward.<\/p>\n

As a striker for Arsenal, he has scored 23 goals in 58 outings. Not bad at all. The latest of those strikes came against Burnley on Monday, a crucial header from a corner.<\/p>\n

Yet, for all of the hype Havertz received back in his homeland, he has arguably struggled to reach his potential. Like Kofane, he plied his trade as a teenager at Leverkusen before moving to Chelsea. In his final two campaigns in Germany, he scored 48 goals in 87 games. It’s safe to say he was one of the best young players in the game.<\/p>\n

While Kofane has not achieved the same sort of numbers just yet, he has been billed as “one of Europe’s most exciting strikers”<\/a> by scout Jacek Kulig.<\/p>\n

Why? Well, not only did he score seven goals and register six assists this term at the age of 19 but he possesses a frigthening set of attributes that threatened to cause Gabriel and William Saliba trouble when the two teams met in this season’s Champions League.<\/p>\n

Standing at 6 foot 2, the teenager has long strides that make him a menacing proposition for defenders but he’s also a big physical presence because of that.<\/p>\n

Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes described him as “an extremely powerful and quick striker” while the Bundesliga’s official website<\/a> outlines him as someone “with speed, vision and a polished finishing ability”, further remarking that Kofane’s “silky skills and all-round profile are similar to that of Hugo Ekitike.”<\/p>\n

Ekitike saw his season curtailed with an Achilles injury he took no time to get used to the speed of Premier League football when he arrived, powering home 17 goals in his debut campaign at Liverpool.<\/p>\n

If Kofane’s introduction is anything like that, he’d be an almighty signing. He’s very different to Havertz when it comes to style but moving to England from Germany at a young age, the journey and rise to greatness are certainly alike.<\/p>\n
