Liverpool<\/a> are no longer the champions of the Premier League<\/a>, and while there is a lot of uncertainty at Anfield right now, it’s clear that there is a mountain to climb before Arne Slot<\/a>‘s side reach the peak once again.<\/p>\n

FSG’s decision to ignore Xabi Alonso’s availability and Chelsea’s tightening hold on the Spanish coach, now secure, has led to consternation within the Liverpool fanbase, who have not watched a sustained spell of what you might define as ‘attractive football’ for over a year now.<\/p>\n

The clock is ticking for Slot, even as FSG maintain their faith in the Dutch coach, who, don’t forget, won the Premier League last season. But he doesn’t have limitless credit in the bank, and the woes of superstars such as Alexander Isak<\/a> are fanning the flames of a regrettable situation that may yet explode.<\/p>\n

The fact that Isak is not among Liverpool’s top scorers this season illustrates in black and white his troubles across his maiden year at the club.<\/p>\n

The Sweden striker joined from Newcastle United in a record-breaking \u00a3125m deal last summer, but injuries and struggles to integrate have kept him well away from his former reputation as “the best striker in the Premier League<\/a>“, as Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said of him back in January 2025.<\/p>\n

Liverpool need forwards, but they also need deeper means of rekindling Slot’s attacking system, and that’s where Denzel Dumfries<\/a> comes in.<\/p>\n

According to TEAMtalk<\/a>, Dumfries has been identified as the perfect short-term solution at right-back for Liverpool, with representatives of the Inter Milan star in contact with the Anfield side over a summer swoop worth about \u00a320m.<\/p>\n

With Jeremie Frimpong ineffective so far and Conor Bradley out with a long-term injury, right-back is a position that FSG may need to prioritise this summer, and with the 30-year-old’s agents pushing to seal a move for him to Merseyside, this one could be wrapped up nice and quickly.<\/p>\n

Dumfries isn’t the youngest right-back in Europe, but he is accomplished on the biggest stage and applies focus on building and influencing attacks.<\/p>\n

\n Why Dumfries could get Isak firing at Liverpool<\/strong>
\n <\/h2>\n

Dumfries is a unique wide defender in that he doesn’t have the most impressive technical game, and yet his athleticism and quality as a marauding powerhouse make him a difficult opponent for defenders to stop.<\/p>\n

By launching himself into dangerous positions, he would add a dimension to Liverpool’s flagging attack, doing so with more certainty than Frimpong, who has only started 12 Premier League matches this season. Journalist Alan Rzepa has described him as a “monster<\/a>” for his strength and talent on the offence.<\/p>\n

This is a style that works well with Liverpool’s big-money striker. Anthony Gordon’s pace and tenacity down the left channel at St. James’ Park bore dividends for Eddie Howe’s side, and the fact that Dumfries has completed 80% of his passes in Serie A emphasises his ability on the ball, and how he would feed into Slot’s controlled play while adding attacking flair too.<\/p>\n

Isak grew up playing street football in the suburbs of Stockholm. You can see it in the way he plays, a shifty, loose-limbed manner about him and a natural instinctiveness that was developed in tight-packed spaces on Swedish streets.<\/p>\n

Liverpool’s non-existent midfield and issues out on the flanks have nullified Isak in his output, but Dumfries could help being him back into the light. The Dutchman is far more physical and robust than his countryman Frimpong.<\/p>\n

He’s not a spring chicken anymore, but Dumfries is the real deal, a part of an Inter Milan side who have claimed another league title and who play some of the most stylish football in Europe.<\/p>\n

Dumfries boasts a lot of attacking quality, and his ability to piledrive into the danger area would only help Isak find his feet, especially if FSG manage to sort out Liverpool’s creative defects in the middle of the park.<\/p>\n
