The Dallas Cowboys<\/a>\u00a0have made it clear that\u00a0<\/span>wide receiver George Pickens<\/a>\u00a0will not\u00a0<\/span>receive<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>a multiyear contract extension this offseason after Pickens signed the franchise tag<\/a>\u00a0worth<\/span> roughly $27.3M for the 2026 campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n During a recent conversation with\u00a0<\/span>Jori Epstein<\/a> of Yahoo Sports, Cowboys owner and general manager\u00a0<\/span>Jerry Jones<\/a> suggested he has no regrets regarding the team’s handling of the Pickens situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n “This is great from our view,” Jones said about retaining Pickens’ rights via the tag. “For him as well, it lets him really extend what he’s got going right now in light of the fact that\u2026when we got him, we got him for no other reason than because there was a long-term question. Through next year and this year, he\u2019ll answer all those questions.”\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Those “questions” likely have to do with the\u00a0<\/span>red flags<\/a> that have hovered over Pickens from his\u00a0<\/span>Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> tenure (2022-24) through this spring. Most recently, the Cowboys\u00a0<\/span>reportedly<\/a> fined Pickens last season\u00a0<\/span>at least once for “being late to things.” Additionally, he was benched<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>for an offensive series of a November game\u00a0<\/span>after he reportedly missed a team bus.<\/p>\n While Pickens\u00a0was\u00a0<\/span>not present<\/a> for the team’s first voluntary workout that followed his signing of the\u00a0tag, it’s believed he will show up for the start of the team’s\u00a0<\/span>mandatory minicamp on June 16. In his first season of having Dak Prescott as his full-time quarterback, Pickens tallied career highs of 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdown catches.\u00a0<\/p>\n “We will expect more earlier,” Jones added during his comments about Pickens. “He will expect more. That he not only build on where he got to last year, the preparation will be out there happening as a major part in any series or any game. So I think from the get-go, he will have more to give in the plans of what we’re doing early and late in the season.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Pickens may\u00a0<\/span>not love<\/a> having to play on the tag, but Jones’ comments indicate that the Cowboys will not make the 25-year-old available to other clubs before the 2026 season gets underway.
