England defender Harry Maguire said he was \u201cshocked and gutted\u201d to have been left out of Thomas Tuchel\u2019s World Cup squad.<\/p>\n

The German coach will name his 26-man squad for the tournament in North America on Friday and began making calls to players the previous day.<\/p>\n

Manchester United\u2019s Maguire was part of the England squad in March, having received his first call-up under Tuchel, but the 66-cap defender has confirmed he will not be going to the World Cup.<\/p>\n

The centre-back, 33, posted on social media: \u201cI was confident I could (have) played a major part this summer for my country after the season I\u2019ve had. I\u2019ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish the players, all the best this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maguire\u2019s mother Zoe also expressed her disappointment on social media, saying she was \u201cdisgusted\u201d by the decision.<\/p>\n

Maguire has played a major role for United since Michael Carrick took charge at Old Trafford in January, helping the team finish third in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

According to reports from UK media, Manchester City\u2019s Phil Foden, Nottingham Forest\u2019s Morgan Gibbs-White, Manchester United\u2019s Luke Shaw, Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, Fikayo Tomori and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are also set to miss out.<\/p>\n

Ivan Toney is poised to earn a shock recall, while Ollie Watkins, Kobbie Mainoo and Tino Livramento have also reportedly been included.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would mean a lot,\u201d Toney told Sky Sports in February, speaking about the prospect of a World Cup call-up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have never played at a World Cup. It would be a dream; everyone dreams of that.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we were to win it, that would be so big for the country. You have visions of what could happen. If it comes true, it would be a blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
