Whatever way you cut it, Glasgow Rangers<\/a> simply conceded too many goals this season, with the backline enduring so much upheaval throughout the campaign.<\/p>\n

The Gers did actually concede just twice more than the champions, although their tally of 43 goals shipped was nine more than Hearts, having particularly wilted at the crunch stage of the season.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the final seven Premiership games saw Danny Rohl<\/a>‘s side concede at least twice in each of those outings, with it perhaps no surprise that the Gers did eventually come unstuck in the title race.<\/p>\n

There will, at least, be significant change in the defensive ranks this summer, with James Tavernier the most notable departure, while the likes of Max Aarons, Jayden Meghoma, Derek Cornelius and Nasser Djiga are all set to return to their parent clubs.<\/p>\n

In Djiga’s case, there has been talk of a potential permanent stay, although that could be ended by pursuing a rival centre-back target instead.<\/p>\n

As revealed by TEAMtalk<\/a>, the Gers appear to be edging closer to a deal for Dundee starlet, Luke Graham, having verbally agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old defender.<\/p>\n

The report suggests that the Ibrox side are determined to bring the young Scot to Glasgow this summer, although they will face significant rival interest in his signature, with the likes of Norwich City and Portsmouth also in the mix.<\/p>\n

The piece adds that Steven Pressley’s side are holding out for a fee in excess of \u00a31.5m, with his current deal set to expire in 2027.<\/p>\n

Djiga, to his credit, did manage to shake off an error-strewn start to life at Ibrox by emerging as a key figure following his return from AFCON.<\/p>\n

That said, his performances often ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous, never truly looking comfortable in the heart of the backline.<\/p>\n

Against Celtic, for instance, the Burkina Faso international was especially shaky, squandering possession on 11 occasions in that crucial 3-1 defeat.<\/p>\n

He’s simply not shown enough to warrant an extended stay, and should Rangers manage to keep hold of Fernandez, it could well be Graham who emerges as the Nigerian’s starting partner at centre-back.<\/p>\n

A towering, left-footed centre-back, Graham has enjoyed another fine season under Pressley’s watch, tipped to be a Premier League player later down the line by his manager.<\/p>\n

Still only 22, he started 35 Premiership games in 2025\/26, scoring and assisting three goals, while helping his side claim six clean sheets in that time.<\/p>\n

For comparison, while Djiga did play his part in seven clean sheets, he failed to score or assist at all, notably squandering a late effort at Parkhead earlier this month.<\/p>\n

In a defensive sense, both men are physical, ball-winning centre-backs, having averaged 2.7 tackles and interceptions apiece this season, yet Graham still largely comes out on top in that sense.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the \u00a31.5m man won 67% of his total duels and 70% of his aerial duels, proving such an asset in both boxes for Pressley’s side.<\/p>\n

Again, for comparison, Djiga won 65% of his total duels and only 59% of his aerial duels, even while starting 12 fewer games than Graham.<\/p>\n

In truth, the Rangers loanee is gettable for opposition forwards, clearly not as adept at dealing with balls into the box, as his lowly aerial duel rate highlights.<\/p>\n

Graham, on the other hand, has all the makings of a dominant, imposing centre-back, with it easy to see why there is such interest in him heading into the summer.<\/p>\n
