The Mumbai Indians batter and India T20I skipper had a tough IPL 2026 — just 270 runs in 13 games, with his best knock coming against Rajasthan Royals. Even then, his gritty 60 wasn’t enough to get MI over the line as they fell short in a 206-run chase. That win sent Rajasthan into the playoffs, punching out Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, while MI ended up ninth on the table with only four wins in 14 matches.

Before taking on Rajasthan, Suryakumar cleared things up on-air. He shut down the injury rumors, saying they were just nonsense. He wasn’t shy about calling out the rumor mills.

“Let’s get this straight. Anyone talking about me having a wrist injury is either a physio or just clueless about cricket,” he said. “If there really was a problem, there’s no way I’d be able to play those flick shots you keep seeing, whether in practice or matches. Those shots are pure wrist and hand-eye coordination. So, it’s pretty simple — if I had an injury, I couldn’t play them.”

He didn’t let it bother him much, though. “Honestly, it’s not in my control. People will say what they want, but I don’t pay attention.”

Suryakumar also touched on his form slump. He admitted things didn’t click this season, but he hasn’t stopped putting in the hours.

“I’ve worked hard all the way. Even at the start of the year, I was in good touch — won Player of the Series against New Zealand, had a decent World Cup in my eyes. IPL didn’t go my way, but I never stopped trying.”

He keeps things simple. “You can’t control results. You can control effort. So, I’ll keep working, keep showing up. If success comes, great. If not, no problem. I’ll get back to work. I believe God is watching — sooner or later, the rewards will come.”

Source link

Suryakumar Yadav put all the chatter about his wrist injury to rest on Sunday.
