It was learned<\/a> on Tuesday that the NCAA has denied Texas Tech Red Raiders<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>quarterback Brendan Sorsby<\/a>‘s request for reinstatement for eligibility regarding the 2026 season<\/a>. He\u00a0<\/span>checked<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>into a residential treatment program to deal with a gambling addiction earlier this spring.\u00a0<\/p>\n As ESPN’s Pete Thamel\u00a0<\/a>noted, Sorsby previously filed a lawsuit against the NCAA seeking a temporary injunction that would grant him eligibility for the upcoming campaign. While Texas Tech plans to appeal the NCAA’s ruling, it remains possible that Sorsby could\u00a0<\/span>enter this year’s supplemental draft for the NFL<\/a>.<\/p>\n For a piece published on Wednesday, NFL insider Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom US<\/a> spoke with league insiders about Sorsby’s potential future in the league.\u00a0<\/p>\n “Sorsby has until June 22 to declare for [the supplemental draft],” La Canfora wrote, “and his gambling addiction would absolutely give NFL teams pause, and the NFL would have to approve him to take part in the process. But multiple executives said that Sorsby\u2019s talent would lead him to be selected. A team that took Sorsby in a particular round in the supplemental draft would forfeit that pick in the 2027 spring draft.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n For a story published earlier in May, one unnamed NFL executive acknowledged<\/a> that questions about Sorsby’s gambling are “a red flag.” That said, a scout and evaluator who spoke with La Canfora hinted that at least one team would take a flier on Sorsby if he is available via the supplemental draft in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n “No one who takes him is going to expect him to play (in 2026),” the evaluator added about Sorsby. “He\u2019s a big kid with an accurate arm and a quick release who can push the ball down the field.”\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n As Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio<\/a> pointed out, Sorsby\u2019s injunction hearing is scheduled to be held this coming Monday (June 1). Per Sean Deveney<\/a> of Heavy, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated suggested during a Tuesday appearance on Cleveland sports radio station 92.3 The Fan that Sorsby could become a hot commodity among teams if he ultimately declares for the supplemental draft in June.\u00a0<\/p>\n “He\u2019s got all the talent in the world,” Breer said about Sorsby. “He still has a ways to go developmentally, but just from an arm talent standpoint, you hear Caleb Williams, Zach Wilson, Pat Mahomes type of talent where he can get so much juice on the ball and throw from different arm slots.
