A 41-year-old star has revealed receiving a surprise WWE call, which left him fearing he was getting fired. Often the promotions pick stars for certain roles, and while they might not always get the spotlight, the role remains vital.<\/p>\n
This is what happened when The Rock decided to dust off his ring rust in 2011. This was going to be The Great One’s first match since 2004, and he needed somebody to train with him to get into match conditioning.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/template><\/p>\n During an interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet<\/a><\/em>, former tag team champion Brian Myers, aka Curt Hawkins, revealed that he and Joe Hennig (Curtis Axel) were handpicked by Triple H and John Laurinaitis to train with The Rock.<\/a><\/p>\n Myers revealed when he first received the call from Laurinaitis, he thought he was getting fired.<\/p>\n “He hosted the Mania, and he was around, but then he was going to do that tag in The Garden, and they said he wanted to train. Johnny Ace called me on a Wednesday, and I\u2019m like, ‘Oh, I\u2019m getting fired, this is it.’ Then they were like, \u2018Please hold for Joe Hennig.\u2019 I\u2019m like, ‘WTF?’ It was the weirdest,” he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n He said he was on a date with his future wife when the call came. Myers mentioned that the experience of training with the former WWE Champion was unbelievable.<\/p>\n “Johnny is like, \u2018Yeah, Rock wants to train, and we picked you guys.\u2019 It was an unbelievable experience, because, obviously, Dwayne\u2019s schedule is something else, and we were his personal little crash test dummies. You just never knew. A couple times I flew to Miami in the morning, train with him in Miami, and then flew out of Miami, like my commute was Miami and back in a day,” he mentioned.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n It was three years later after training with The Rock that WWE released Brian Myers, ending his eight-year stay with the promotion.<\/p>\n During the conversation on INSIGHT<\/em>, he said that being released from the company was good for him since he wasn’t getting utilized.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
