A major change could soon take place in India’s T20I team, as the future of captain Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly come under serious discussion. Just months after leading India to the T20 World Cup title, Suryakumar Yadav is now facing one of the toughest phases of his career.<\/p>\n

His place in the team, as well as his captaincy, has been questioned because of his poor form with the bat and fitness concerns. Suryakumar Yadav\u2019s future will be one of the biggest issues to discuss when the selectors meet to pick India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England.<\/p>\n

One of the strongest contenders is Shreyas Iyer. The Mumbai batter was already appointed vice-captain for Afghanistan ODIs and is seen as a potential leader for India’s white-ball teams. Iyer is likely to take the No. 4 batting position if Suryakumar loses his place in the T20I side.<\/p>\n

Another serious option is Axar Patel. The all-rounder served as vice-captain during India’s T20 World Cup campaign and has impressed many with his calm approach and consistency. His experience and all-round skills make him a strong candidate.<\/p>\n

A source was quoted as saying by Times of India, \u201cAjit is a very strong chief selector, one of the strongest to have been in charge. He has taken some tough calls with an eye on the future, and he, along with his panel, has a plan in place for the T20I captaincy and the way forward. That’s the reason Shreyas was appointed vice-captain in ODIs and was in the squad for the last bilateral series India played before the T20 World Cup.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIs he now the coach’s choice? Or he has someone else in mind? And will that someone be the selectors’ choice? These are the important points of discussion. Axar Patel was the vice-captain for the World Cup; Ishan Kishan has age, form, and leadership credentials; and then there is Sanju Samson’s name doing the rounds. Samson has recency bias on his side, but his inconsistency has not pleased key stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
