Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch and was briefly unconscious during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The 34-year-old, who plays for German club Wolfsburg, appeared to clutch his chest before falling to the ground in the 65th minute.<\/p>\n
“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself,” said Denmark’s national team doctor, Morten Boesen, as reported by BBC Sport’s Ben Collins<\/a>.<\/p>\n “We are in ongoing contact with him, and the doctors at the hospital,” Boesen added. “But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was OK.”<\/p>\n The match was abandoned with Denmark leading 2-1. Eriksen started the game for his 151st international cap.<\/p>\n The midfielder suffered cardiac arrest during a European Championship meeting with Finland in June 2021. Boesen said<\/a> after that incident that Eriksen “was gone” before being resuscitated. He was subsequently fitted with a pacemaker and returned to playing professional football with Brentford in the Premier League around eight-and-a-half months later.<\/p>\n “The pacemaker responded as it should,” Boesen said after Eriksen’s collapse Sunday. “He was briefly unconscious but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.”<\/p>\n
