It has now been five straight seasons since West Bromwich Albion<\/a> last competed in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The Baggies have usually found themselves in the promotion pack, with Carlos Corberan very nearly guiding the West Midlands club back to the promised land of the top-flight when sealing a playoff finish in the Championship<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n

Since the Spaniard’s exit, however, West Brom have been staring at the lower reaches of the Championship, instead of dreaming about the top-flight, with survival just about secured last season under the heroic interim reign of James Morrison.<\/p>\n

Now handed the permanent reins, Morrison will be aiming to be the manager who finally puts the Baggies back on the map as far as promotion is concerned, and he will be craving some striker reinforcements this summer to aid him in this tough mission.<\/p>\n

\n West Brom’s striker problems <\/strong>
\n <\/h2>\n

Albion find themselves a striker light right now with Daryl Dike set to walk away from the Hawthorns at the expiry of his contract.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the injury-plagued striker has finally been put out of his misery, with only 25 starts coming his way across his entire Baggies career, despite being around the building for five years.<\/p>\n

He did have a burst of goals in him here and there, with 11 put away from 68 contests, but his injury demons have resulted in him being released.<\/p>\n

With Josh Maja also suffering from long spells in the treatment room, it does make sense that West Brom are prioritising a brand-new striker signing, with Aune Heggebo hardly a reliable source of goals either.<\/p>\n

Picked up for a steep \u00a34.75m from Brann last summer, the Nordic attacker bowed out from his debut season in England with ten goals from 48 games. These numbers don’t tell the full story, however, as Heggebo remarkably scored just one league strike when the calendar rolled over to 2026.<\/p>\n

He has been praised for being a workhorse for the West Brom cause, though, with EFL pundit Sam Parkin hailing him as a “real handful”<\/a> for defenders to keep tabs on.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, Morrison will likely utilise the hard-working Scandinavian next season, but the Baggies could snap up a big upgrade on the 24-year-old.<\/p>\n

\n West Brom must beat QPR to Heggebo upgrade<\/strong>
\n <\/h2>\n

It has been reported by EFL-focused journalist Pete O’Rourke that both West Brom and Queens Park Rangers are battling it out to acquire Bamba Dieng<\/a> this summer, with the Lorient striker becoming a free agent very shortly.<\/p>\n

While Heggebo regularly fell victim to barren patches of form last season, Dieng stood out throughout the campaign for Olivier Pantaloni’s men as a consistent goalscoring presence, with the Senegalese forward bagging a red-hot 16 goals from only 26 matches in all competitions.<\/p>\n

With fewer big chances missed than Heggebo, too, with a lesser ten to the Norwegian’s 14 in the Championship, Dieng shouldn’t be struck by too much fear when trying to acclimatise to the Championship, having also scored 11 goals for former employers Marseille near the top of Ligue 1.<\/p>\n

He could be just the spark West Brom need to throw themselves back into the Championship promotion reckoning with confidence, with the 26-year-old’s “very fast”<\/a> nature – as noted by ex-boss Jean-Pierre Papin – potentially scaring second-tier defences stiff.<\/p>\n

One a free transfer, it really does feel like a no-brainer to try and snap up Dieng, with West Brom striking gold in the free agent market before with Maja, who is now a mainstay in the Midlands.<\/p>\n

Moreover, with Heggebo sticking out as more of a gritty battler, Morrison could land himself a perfect blend of strikers by securing the Senegal international, with the soon-to-be free agent’s lightning-quick speed, coupled with his ability to tuck away chances for fun, surely making him an instant hit with the Hawthorns faithful if he can hit the ground running.<\/p>\n
