After missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014 last season, the Kansas City Chiefs\u00a0<\/a>are reuniting with a star defender who helped them win two of their four Super Bowls.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Chiefs signed cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to a one-year deal worth up to $5M on Monday. He played for Kansas City from 2020-23 and spent the last two seasons with the Tennessee Titans.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Chiefs took LSU Tigers<\/a> CB Mansoor Delane with pick No. 6 in the 2026 NFL Draft to replace CB Trent McDuffie (now with the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>), but Sneed provides a needed veteran presence in the secondary. Will he offer more than that?<\/p>\n

L’Jarius Sneed’s tenure with the Titans didn’t go well\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Sneed signed a four-year, $76.4M deal with the Titans after the Chiefs traded him to the AFC club before the 2024 season. He struggled to justify that deal in two seasons with Tennessee.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Quad and knee issues limited Sneed to 12 games in two seasons with the Titans, and when he did play, the DB struggled. Per Sports Info Solutions<\/a>, he had four pass breakups after logging 36 in four seasons with the Chiefs. His 2025 season was particularly underwhelming as he allowed a career-worst 10.6 yards per target and had no interceptions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Titans, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2021, are among the NFL<\/a>‘s more dysfunctional teams. They fired second-year head coach Brian Callahan after Week 6 last season. Surely, that prevented Sneed from playing at his best.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He should improve in Kansas City under future Hall of Fame head coach Andy Reid and well-respected defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Even then, that may not be enough to help Sneed become a surefire CB2, let alone a CB1.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs need Delane to establish himself as a lockdown corner to replace McDuffie. Sneed, 29, could be a solid role player but may no longer be capable of doing that job at this point in his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
