As soon as it was learned<\/a> earlier this spring that the Denver Broncos<\/a> had signed general manager George Paton<\/a> to a five-year contract extension, it seemed like it was a matter of when and not if head coach Sean Payton<\/a> would receive a similar deal to keep the two married to the franchise for the foreseeable future.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Broncos confirmed such news on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n According to the Broncos’ website,<\/a> Payton has signed a new five-year contract that runs through the 2030 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Broncos acquired<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Payton’s rights from the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>New Orleans Saints<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>back in 2023, and that trade has worked out quite well for Denver. In total, the 62-year-old has\u00a0<\/span><\/span>accumulated a 32-19 regular-season record during his Broncos tenure.\u00a0<\/p>\n Perhaps most importantly, Payton<\/span> has been credited<\/a> for the club’s decision to select quarterback Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick of the 2024 NFL<\/a> Draft. Together, Nix and Payton helped the Broncos reach this year’s conference championship game, and Denver may have advanced to the Super Bowl had Nix not suffered<\/a> a broken bone in his right ankle during the divisional round of the playoffs.<\/p>\n “Sean Payton has led an impressive turnaround over the past three seasons, instilling a winning culture with high expectations,” Broncos team owner and CEO Greg Penner said for the team release. “I appreciate the close partnership he shares with George Paton, along with the alignment and stability across our football operations. We’re thrilled for Sean to continue leading our team as head coach, building on our progress during such an exciting time for the Broncos.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Shortly after the Broncos announced the news of Payton’s deal, DraftKings Sportsbook had Denver tied for seventh among the betting favorites at +1025 odds to represent the AFC in Super Bowl LXI this coming February.
