The football community is once again applauding Japan\u2019s fans for cleaning up after themselves following the national team\u2019s 2-2 draw against the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
Footage captured from Texas\u2019 Dallas Stadium following the full-time whistle shows a group of Japanese supporters collecting rubbish from the stalls before departing the venue, making sure they left the area spotless.<\/p>\n
It comes after Japanese fans were praised for similar behaviour during previous editions of the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022.<\/p>\n
A Japanese proverb \u2014 \u201ctatsu tori ato wo nigosazu\u201d \u2014 roughly means \u201cstand up, take care of it, without leaving any traces behind\u201d when translated into English.<\/p>\n

A referee that England manager Thomas Tuchel labelled \u201cterrible\u201d will officiate the Three Lions\u2019 World Cup opener against Croatia.<\/p>\n
FIFA has confirmed French referee Cl\u00e9ment Turpin will officiate England\u2019s Group L game against Croatia in Dallas on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
However, Tuchel may not be happy with the decision.<\/p>\n
Three years ago, Tuchel graded Turpin \u201c1\/10\u201d following Bayern Munich\u2019s Champions League quarter-final loss to Manchester City, during which he was sent off by the referee for protesting, shown two yellow cards.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was absolutely terrible,\u201d Bayern manager Tuchel said after the game in April 2023.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s unbelievable at this level. He was whistling for everything and anything. Everything was against us. In the end, we were never in a position to turn things around with three men against us. That\u2019s a fact.\u201d<\/p>\n

Southern cities in the United States are about to be hit with high temperatures, putting the World Cup workers at risk.<\/p>\n
Temperatures in Miami, Houston, Dallas and Atlanta are expected to climb to 32 degrees over the coming weeks, making this the hottest edition of the FIFA World Cup since 1930.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, labour advocates and scholars have warned that thousands of World Cup workers could face serious risks during the tournament, including heat exhaustion, if conditions exceed recommended heat-exposure limits.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to be extremely hot, and you just cannot leave people unprotected or you\u2019re going to deal with a lot of injuries,\u201d said Jonathan Alingu, co-executive director of Central Florida Jobs With Justice.<\/p>\n

A group of 13 World Cup teams on Sunday hit out at UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin over reported remarks in which he said this year\u2019s expanded tournament would lead to many \u201ccompletely uninteresting\u201d matches. <\/p>\n
In a joint statement, the 13 football associations including World Cup debutants Cape Verde, Curacao and Uzbekistan, said they \u201crespectfully but firmly reject\u201d Ceferin\u2019s comments quoted in Slovenian newspaper Delo. <\/p>\n
\u201cFor our countries, there is no such thing as an unimportant World Cup match,\u201d the joint statement read.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo suggest that these matches are somehow less important is deeply disappointing and fails to recognise the efforts, sacrifices and aspirations of players, coaches, clubs, football leaders and supporters across the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
In remarks by Ceferin reportedly made before the tournament, the UEFA chief said the expansion of the World Cup to 48 teams this year – up from 32 in 2022 – would dilute the quality of the tournament. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a lot of matches that are completely uninteresting,\u201d Ceferin was quoted as saying by the paper.<\/p>\n
However, Ceferin was also reported by another Slovenian outlet as saying: \u201cOn the other hand even small countries can participate and feel the pulse of the World Cup, which is a big thing.\u201d The joint statement by the 13 teams said all nations participating at the World Cup \u201cdeserve respect.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery team has earned its place on merit. Every supporter has the right to dream. Every match carries meaning for millions of people around the world,\u201d the statement said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe therefore reject the UEFA President\u2019s comments,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
Other signatories to the statement included the football federations of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast and South Africa. <\/p>\n
When contacted by AFP for comment, a UEFA spokesperson did not explicitly issue a denial of Ceferin\u2019s comments but referred reporters to an interview the European football chief gave last week, where he made no mention of the expansion of the World Cup.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
