Defending champion Maya Joint was sent packing on Monday, thus guaranteeing a new champion this time.<\/p>\n<p>Jelena Ostapenko, McCartney Kessler, and Ajla Tomljanovic were among the notable winners on the first day of the tournament. Jasmine Paolini vs Tatjana Maria<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/player\/jasmine-paolini\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Paolini<\/a> has compiled a 12-11 record this season. This will be her first match of the grass swing. Maria has put together a 10-18 record this year. She kicked off her time on grass at the Queen&#8217;s Club Championships. Her title defense concluded in the second round. She made the quarterfinals of the Nottingham Open last week.<\/p>\n<p><template id=\"also-read-articles-template\"><\/p>\n<p><\/template><\/p>\n<p>Paolini leads their rivalry 2-1 at the WTA level. She won their last two matches in straight sets. However, Maria is an extremely competent player on grass. The Italian, who&#8217;s coming back from an injury, could find it tough to handle her older rival&#8217;s crafty game on grass without any prior match play on the surface this year.<\/p>\n<p>Winner: Tatjana Maria<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2>#2. She upset <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/player\/leylah-fernandez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Leylah Fernandez<\/a> en route to the second round of last week&#8217;s Nottingham Open as a qualifier. She came through the qualifiers to seal her spot in the main draw of the Eastbourne Open.<\/p>\n<p>Dart began her grass season with a first-round exit from the Birmingham Open. She made the second round of the Queen&#8217;s Club Championships and went out in the first round of the Nottingham Open. This will be the first meeting between them. Dart&#8217;s 2-7 record against top 100 player since the start of 2025 makes her the underdog in this contest.<\/p>\n<p>Winner: Zeynep Sonmez<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2>#3. Barbora Krejcikova vs Kimberly Birrell<\/h2>\n<p>Krejcikova&#8217;s grass swing started on a mixed note. While she made the final of the Libema Open, she couldn&#8217;t compete for the title due to an illness. Birrell, meanwhile, is yet to win a main draw match on grass this year. She came through to the qualifiers of the Eastbourne Open to book her place in the main draw.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the first encounter between them at the WTA level. Birrell recently upset <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/player\/jessica-pegula\/news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Jessica Pegula<\/a> in the first round of the French Open. While she has the potential to script another upset, a fully-fit Krejcikova is unlikely to succumb to Birrell&#8217;s tricks.<\/p>\n<p>Winner: Barbora Krejcikova<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2>#4. With quarterfinal points to defend at Wimbledon, this week is quite important for her. Bejlek hasn&#8217;t tasted success on grass this season. She won their previous meeting at this year&#8217;s Italian Open in straight sets.
