further notice.<\/p>\n<p>The suspension was imposed on the All Nepal Football Association, commonly known as ANFA.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA confirmed the decision was taken by the Bureau of the FIFA Council on June 24.<\/p>\n<p>The governing body stated that ANFA had been suspended due to violations connected to interference by a third party.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute centres around a long-running battle involving Nepal&#8217;s National Sports Council and the country&#8217;s football authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the National Sports Council suspended ANFA for three months.<\/p>\n<p>The move bodies stressed that football associations must manage their affairs independently and free from outside influence.<\/p>\n<p>The suspension imposed by Nepal&#8217;s National Sports Council was eventually lifted in May.<\/p>\n<p>However, the dispute was not fully resolved.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA ultimately decided that the circumstances surrounding the governance of Nepali football warranted immediate action.<\/p>\n<p>Nepal&#8217;s men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s national teams can no longer compete in international matches organised by FIFA or the AFC.<\/p>\n<p>Domestic clubs have also been barred from continental competitions.<\/p>\n<p>ANFA has lost its membership rights within FIFA until the suspension is lifted.<\/p>\n<p>The association will also be unable to access FIFA and AFC development funding programmes.<\/p>\n<p>Training courses, educational initiatives and other football development opportunities have also been cut off.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA has additionally instructed other football associations not to enter into sporting contact with Nepal while the suspension remains in place.<\/p>\n<p>The ban represents a major setback for football in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Nepal currently sit 175th in FIFA&#8217;s men&#8217;s world rankings, and the women&#8217;s national team is ranked considerably higher at 88th in the world.<\/p>\n<p>ANFA officials have already responded to the decision.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman Suresh Shah described the suspension as a matter of grave concern and confirmed discussions were taking place with stakeholders in an effort to have the punishment removed.<\/p>\n<p>He also acknowledged the impact the ban will have on players and aspiring footballers across Nepal.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, representatives from the National Sports Council have insisted they are looking for ways to address the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>There remains a possible route back for Nepal.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA has indicated that the suspension can be lifted if the issues surrounding governance and interference are resolved.<\/p>\n<p>The world governing body has specifically pointed to the need for ANFA&#8217;s electoral process to be allowed to proceed without outside
