have a selection surprise or two in store for Australia’s Round of 32 clash with Egypt.

Popovic made six changes to the starting line-up against Paraguay was widely praised as inclusions Lucas Herrington, Aziz Behich, Jackson Irvine, Connor Metcalfe, Nestory Irankunda and Cristian Volpato all impressed.

But Bosnich believes there may once again be a change to Australia’s starting front three.

“They got it absolutely spot on against Paraguay,” he said on SEN.

“Going into this game I think he’ll bring back Mo Toure to play up front, and I think he’ll move Nestory Irankunda a little bit wider to inside left or inside right. In between the position of winger and striker.

“I think he’ll stick with Cristian Volpato, and Jordy Bos on the right side. I thought that worked really well.

“He has got the ability to throw in a surprise because they are privy to data that we’re not.

“I think he’ll go with that formation. He might think about bringing Paul Okon-Engstler back in the midfield.”

<amp-ima-video id="body-75-0" width="1.77" height="1" layout="responsive" data-tag="https://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/ads?ad_rule=1&cmsid=2492325&correlator=1782815233461&cust_params=pagetype%3DAMPArticle&description_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxsports.com.au%2Ffootball%2Ffifa-world-cup-2026-socceroos-v-egypt-round-of-32-cristian-volpato-speaks-on-why-he-chose-australia-over-italy-press-conference-team-news%2Fnews-story%2F23df6b8890fd4a292154fc7cd141f062&env=vp&gdfp_req=1&impl=s&iu=%2F21780812979%2Ffoxsports%2Fstory-amp%2Ffootball%2Fstory&output=xml_vast3&sz=640x480&unviewed_position_start=1&vid=932824" data-poster="https://www.foxsports.com.au/pmd/images/2026/06/28/932844_640x360_large_20260628200842.jpg" class="i-amphtml-layout-responsive i-amphtml-layout-size-defined" i-amphtml-layout="responsive"><i-amphtml-sizer style="display:block;padding-top:56.4972%"/></amp-ima-video>

Socceroos preparing to face Salah | 00:49

<amp-analytics type="adobeanalytics" id="adobeanalytics" class="i-amphtml-layout-fixed i-amphtml-layout-size-defined" style="width:1px;height:1px;" i-amphtml-layout="fixed"/>

As for Australia’s chances against Egypt, Bosnich believes Saturday morning’s clash could go the distance.

“I think they’ve got a real chance of winning,” he said.

“Egypt are only two places above Australia in the world rankings.
