There has been a significant update on Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes’ future, amid interest from Ipswich Town<\/a> and Aston Villa.<\/p>\n

Despite being just 21-years-old, Restes has been Toulouse’s first choice between the sticks for the past three seasons, and scout Jacek Kulig has suggested he is one of the best young goalkeepers in the business.<\/p>\n

Ipswich will be heading into the new campaign with the aim of staying in the Premier League<\/a>, which means having a reliable goalkeeper is imperative, whereas Aston Villa will be looking to build on a fantastic 2025-26 season, in which they secured a return to the Champions League.<\/p>\n

Napoli have also held discussions to sign the 19-cap France U21 international, but the French side are yet to receive any ‘concrete’ approaches.<\/p>\n

Ipswich are targeting two goalkeepers at different stages of their careers. The Toulouse number one is still making a name for himself, but he wasn’t one of Ligue 1’s stand-out shot-stoppers last season, recording a save percentage of just 65.4%, ranking him 15th in the division.<\/p>\n

Pope, on the other hand, is 34, but recorded a save percentage of 70.1% in the Premier League, while also averaging 3.3 saves per 90, compared to 2.6 from the Toulouse man.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the Newcastle star has already proven himself in the Premier League over an extended period, amassing 248 appearances in the competition.<\/p>\n

As such, even though Restes could be one for the future, Pope may be a safer bet for an Ipswich side whose main aim will be to avoid relegation next season.<\/p>\n
