Where is Foz?<\/p>\n

That has been the question asked by football fans during the 2026 World Cup, as the former Australian soccer player-turned-prominent sports broadcaster is a glaring absence from SBS\u2019 coverage. <\/p>\n

The 57-year-old \u2013 who became the face of SBS\u2019s football coverage after Les Murray\u2019s passing in 2017 \u2013 hasn\u2019t appeared during this year\u2019s tournament despite the fact he has become the figurehead of the last six World Cups on the national broadcaster. <\/p>\n

And Code Sports <\/a>reports it\u2019s because he was dumped by SBS, without so much as a phone call, text or email.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t asked this time. I didn\u2019t hear from them – no contact at all,\u201d Foster told Code Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Foster\u2019s knowledge and passion for the game \u2013 especially in relation to the Socceroos \u2013 is second to none, so his absence has been clear as day.<\/p>\n

And the decision to snub him left fellow Socceroos great Robbie Slater seeing red, with the popular sports commentator stating SBS is wrong to have dumped the \u201cnational treasure\u201d and saying his axing would have the legendary Les Murray \u201cturning in his grave\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLes Murray would be turning in his grave, mate,\u201d Slater told Code. \u201c \u2026 It\u2019s a missed opportunity from SBS. They\u2019re good people, but there\u2019s no knowledge, there\u2019s no experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrance played the other day, and I heard someone call them \u2018one-dimensional\u2019. I called Fozzy and said, \u2018Mate, why aren\u2019t you on SBS, you\u2019ve done six World Cups\u2019. He told me he never had a call, never had an email about anything. I find that extraordinary.\u201d<\/p>\n

His absence has become glaring after Harry Kewell, who was brilliant in his on-air role as SBS analysis, returned to Vietnam to begin pre-season as coach of Hanoi FC.<\/p>\n

Legendary Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was also not called up to be part of the coverage. <\/p>\n

Slater claims the Aussie legend was initially approached about a role on SBS\u2019 World Cup coverage before being overlooked. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t want Fozzy or Schwarzer? Extraordinary,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t get me wrong, the coverage is superb, and it\u2019s not to disrespect anyone who is there, and it\u2019s not a criticism \u2013 the coverage is brilliant. It\u2019s not about who is there, it\u2019s about who\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foster made 29 appearances for the Australia between 1996 and 2000.<\/p>\n

During his international career, the midfielder scored nine goals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
