An unexpected injury marred Taylor Fritz’s impressive run at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships. The No. 1-ranked American tennis player reached the quarterfinals after seeing off the likes of Alexander Bublik, Lorenzo Sonego, Patrick Kypson, and Dusan Lajovic. <\/p>\n
He locked horns with the French Open champion Alexander Zverev. The German tennis player secured his first victory over the American in more than two years with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 lead on Court One on Wednesday. Fritz came up short in the quarterfinals after he struggled physically with his knee issues. In the press conference following the match, Fritz reflected on what happened in the match. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n \nThanks for the submission!\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/template><\/p>\n He stated that he noticed some pain at the end of his match against Bublik, but since the pain wasn’t severe and his tendinitis usually improved with rest, he expected to feel fine with a day of rest before the quarterfinal. Fritz added that although he had a good warm-up session, he started feeling the discomfort in the first set after the third game. He also hoped he would have known about the injury before the match, so he could have mentally prepared himself. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/template><\/p>\n “I kind of wish, I almost wish I knew before so I could have just, like, prepared to play a match where I was going to be kind of playing through it, ’cause I felt like the whole first set I was, like I said, three games in is when I started feeling it. I was already down a break. I was just like panicking, What am I going to do? I just didn’t expect it at all. The only signs I had were I had some pain towards the very end of my match with Bublik. I was already up two sets and a break.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n “I thought maybe not the best sign that I was feeling it after that match, because it wasn’t super physical. But typically it’s how tendinitis is,” Fritz added. “He gets irritated sometimes. You give it a little bit of a rest, and then it feels better. I expected, after a light day yesterday, to feel fine today.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/p>\n
