{"id":252333,"date":"2026-07-10T14:30:34","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T14:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/10\/whatll-they-think-of-next\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T14:30:34","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T14:30:34","slug":"whatll-they-think-of-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/10\/whatll-they-think-of-next\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019ll They Think Of Next?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between the Whirled Cup and the Annual Touring of the France there is much to consume the attention of the international sports (or \u201ccommie sports\u201d as we call them here) enthusiast, and while as usual I\u2019ve managed to miss most of the latter event thus far, I did happen to note <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/pro-cycling\/rules\/huub-artz-drops-out-of-tour-de-france-breakaway-after-being-pulled-up-on-illegal-position-on-the-bike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this story<\/a>:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Firstly, Huub Artz is a great name for a boutique company that makes overpriced hubs that are way too loud:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-9-16 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hub Sound Check \ud83d\udd0a\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Pff83o8Rfsk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">[Sorry, your loud hub sounds stupid.]<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secondly, ,this is absurd:<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Dutch rider was pulled up by the vehicles of the UCI race commissaires, and on the television coverage he could be heard asking them: \u201cWhat\u2019s the limit? Can you explain what\u2019s wrong? Everybody does it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The cameras then showed one of the officials inside the car bending forward to mimic an aerodynamic position on the bike. Along with earlier footage of Artz in the race, it was soon apparent that this related to\u00a0the rule that states a rider cannot use the forearms as a point of support on the bike.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m sorry, but this is America, and even in an event that doesn\u2019t take place anywhere near America I say that riders should be free to assume whatever position they want on a bicycle. Well, if artistic cyclists take over the peloton and they\u2019re allowed to assume whatever on-the-bike position they want, then we can finally get rid of team cars altogether!   This is because if a rider flats or otherwise falls victim to a mechanical he will then be able to share a bike with a teammate without having to wait for a spare wheel or bike change:<\/p>\n<figure of rubber on a Tour rider\u2019s bike?<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The data paints a fascinating picture of how modern race bikes are being optimised, and why the number printed on the tyre sidewall no longer tells the full story.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s the same story every year and it\u2019s really not fascinating at all\u2013but not only is this somehow newsworthy, but we\u2019re also supposed to care about
