It was not the first time she had been selected for the England squad. However, she had feared that a chance of appearing for the European champions may have gone forever after being forced to withdraw from the team late last year through injury.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a hard time to sort of wrap my head around what had happened and probably it was mentally one of the toughest things I’ve experienced,\u201d she admits.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPlaying for England has always been sort of the end goal for me and that for any young footballer growing up, they want to play for England.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was obviously that stress of \u2018will my chance come again?\u2019 but I spoke to Serena after learning that camp and she just said \u2018focus on getting yourself back fit\u2019 and that they\u2019d take another look.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lucy describes training with some of the biggest names in the sport as \u201csurreal\u201d and a \u201ccrazy experience\u201d but she has found ways to handle the pressure. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou get a bit nervous in the car driving up and meeting everyone which is obviously quite nerve wracking, but I think everything you do, from your day-to-day life has led you to the moment that you’re at,\u201d she states.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo there’s nothing like overly special coming into camp that I’ve done any differently, but it’s remembering everything that’s come before has prepared you for this.\u201d<\/p>\n
