With the league returning from a month-long break, there is much anticipation for what the future of the NWSL holds. There have been big moves and big matches set since the break. Let\u2019s reflect on the context behind the break and the excitement that continues to invigorate the NWSL as it resumes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The ongoing 2026 FIFA Men\u2019s World Cup caused definite conflicts in scheduling. Many stadiums across the US were being used to host countries from all around the world. While it is an understandable reason for the <\/span>break<\/span><\/a>, it has been and will continue to be interesting to see how teams return. Will teams at the top continue to play with a productive flow? Or will teams at the middle of the table start to rise?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Breaks can be beneficial in many cases, especially for teams experiencing a lot of injuries. But, the downfall of a break can be the interruption of a team\u2019s flow and rhythm. Considering all this makes the return of the NWSL one full of anticipation and excitement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Since early July we have seen big matches and crazy results in some of these matches. One being the game between San Diego Wave and Angel City. Intensity and emotions soar during a rivalry game, and it could be said for this match. Angel City shocked the Wave in San Diego by shutting them out in a 2-0 victory. Despite this loss, the Wave stay at the top of the league table\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Not long before SDW vs. ACFC, the Wave clawed their way through a victory against Gotham FC. Two powerhouses went head-to-head, and the Wave showed why they are the top team of the league after their 2-0 win. Gotham managed to turn it around against a Washington Spirit in the Queens Classic match on July 15.\u00a0<\/p>\n Gotham survived in a 1-0 victory against their rivals. Even though audiences were looking forward to high-scoring action, the atmosphere of the first women\u2019s match at Citi Field in New York was electric.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Speaking of an electric atmosphere at the Queens Classic match, <\/span>Sam Kerr<\/span><\/a> made her NWSL return in this match. She was subbed in and surely electrified the crowd with her touches. There is a lot to look forward to, both as a fan of Gotham and as an NWSL fan, when a star like Kerr comes to the pitch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Along with Kerr, we saw Lindsey Heaps also make her return to the NWSL. Heaps made an impressive return as she helped Denver Summit secure their 2-1 victory over the Portland Thorns with an assist. The match in itself was full of intensity and emotion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Can Heaps turn the path of the Summit around and help the squad take leaps forward? How can Kerr add to an already stacked Gotham team?
