Arsenal<\/a> have spent much of the summer trying to identify the midfielder who will shape the next phase of Mikel Arteta<\/a>‘s project.<\/p>\n

The Gunners have cast a wide net, weighing up established stars capable of making an immediate impact alongside some of Europe’s brightest young talents.<\/p>\n

For several weeks, Moroccan World Cup sensation Ayyoub Bouaddi appeared to fall firmly into the second category at N5.<\/p>\n

Arsenal were said to have invested significant time in the Lille teenager, reportedly<\/a> holding discussions with his representatives and making it clear they viewed him as one of the continent’s outstanding prospects.<\/p>\n

Having progressed through Lille’s academy, he became the club’s youngest-ever player when he made his senior debut aged just 16 in October 2023.<\/p>\n

Since then, the midfielder has developed at an extraordinary pace, becoming a regular in Ligue 1 and gaining valuable Champions League experience before celebrating his breakthrough on the international stage with Morocco at the World Cup.<\/p>\n

According to Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri<\/a>, Man City have moved into pole position to sign Bouaddi after accelerating negotiations with both the player and Lille.<\/p>\n

His report claims discussions are progressing rapidly, with City taking advantage after Arsenal shifted their focus towards Newcastle captain Bruno Guimar\u00e3es.<\/p>\n

Andrea Berta’s switch in priorities has apparently allowed Enzo Maresca’s side to leapfrog the Gunners as Bouaddi’s future looks increasingly destined to be at the Etihad.<\/p>\n

City’s interest has intensified following Bouaddi’s impressive World Cup campaign.<\/p>\n

TalkSPORT recently reported that the Premier League side have become increasingly confident of completing a deal, with Lille prepared to discuss a sale but preferring either a premium fee for an immediate transfer or a reduced price if the player were loaned back for another season.<\/p>\n

City, though, are understood to want Bouaddi available immediately as they continue rebuilding their midfield.<\/p>\n
