Rubbish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Beacroft Sr, a former race walker himself, admitted he might have done things differently. \u201cI just saw the guy make another surge and I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, don\u2019t do too much too soon\u2019, but he held him off. The Australian finished behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/jul\/31\/georgia-hunter-bell-lilian-odira-2026-commonwealth-games-800m-gold\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">English winner Georgia Hunter Bell<\/a> and Kenyan Lilian Odira, last year\u2019s world champion who Billings almost beat at the line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">While that bronze medal provided unbridled joy for Billings, a silver in the pole vault for Nina Kennedy left the Paris Olympic champion with mixed emotions. \u201cIf you don\u2019t laugh, you\u2019ll cry,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I\u2019m trying to put on a happy face right now, but look, I\u2019m disappointed. The 100m silver medallist and new 9.85sec man started well but faded behind South African winner Sinesipho Dambile. \u201cI knew if I wanted to win, I was going to have to risk it,\u201d Kennedy said. \u201cLook, I gave it a red hot crack. Didn\u2019t have enough juice in the tank. Credit to the winners. But yeah, I\u2019m gassed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Like Lewis, Lachie Kennedy will compete in the 4x100m relay on a busy final day of competition in Glasgow, which also includes men\u2019s and women\u2019s mile races. The women\u2019s event is a chance for Jessica Hull to get one back on Claudia Hollingsworth, who caused the Paris silver medallist to fall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/apr\/10\/australian-athletics-sydney-national-championships-jessica-hull-lachlan-kennedy-report\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a controversial 1500m final at the national championships in April<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">The men\u2019s event promises to one of the races of these games. It will feature Scottish pair Jake Wightman and Josh Kerr, who broke the men\u2019s world record in the mile last month, as well as reigning Commonwealth champion Olli Hoare and his fellow Australians Adam Spencer and Cam Myers.
