It\u2019s a special place to me. I love living here. New Zealand and the NBL was by far his favourite adventure professionally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so he spoke highly of it. And that was even before the opportunity. So he still has ties to the club,\u201d James said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite signing a two-year deal in Israel, James and Hapoel agreed to part ways, with the ongoing conflict in the region playing a significant role.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWith the war and everything that happened over in Israel that\u2019s going on right now. We just decided to part ways, but he [Shamir] put in a good word for me and honestly when I was in talks about coming here, I called Anthony and he was so excited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe thought it\u2019d be a perfect fit for me. So yeah, that was really icing on the cake. It\u2019ll come up and I\u2019ll see highlights. Going back and forth. I know there\u2019s a lot of ex-NBA players who come over here and play, so I know the league,\u201d James said.<\/p>\n<p><b>BREAKING: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com.au\/basketball\/nbl\/nbl-2026-new-zealand-breakers-sign-charles-bediako-nbl27-imports-gordon-herbert-parker-jacksoncartwright\/news-story\/ce81f8c2faa72030bb0e0896663d8d8c\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NZ Breakers land controversial former US college star Charles Bediako in major roster coup<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that it\u2019s a good league to play in for sure and that guys like being over here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old said his individual ambitions are secondary to helping return the Breakers to the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI think my personal accolades are tied in specifically to the team accolades. So obviously, I know the Breakers haven\u2019t made the playoffs in a few years consecutively. I\u2019m a defensive wing, somebody who I think, I pride myself on defence, being able to guard one through five. And so obviously being able to make one of those all defensive teams would be key.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut just doing whatever my team asks of me, I know that I\u2019m able to showcase more offensively than I have been in the past. And you know what I\u2019ve been working on this year. But I just want, honestly, I just want people to say that \u2018he got better day after day, game after game.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be good days and bad days, but I just want to maximise my good days and minimise my bad days for sure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>James arrives with a reputation as a versatile defender capable of guarding multiple positions, while also bringing a reliable perimeter shot. We have a very talented roster as you probably know. The talent level is not what we\u2019re lacking. I think that once we get everybody on the same page, we\u2019ll be able to win a lot of basketball games,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>With both he and Parker Jackson-Cartwright sporting double-barrel names, James was also asked what nickname Breakers fans should use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo last year I was JJ. I\u2019ve been Joe. I\u2019ve been Josiah.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJosiah Jordan is really only what my parents called me when I\u2019m in trouble.
