The\u00a0Miami Heat\u00a0<\/a>were one of the biggest winners of the early stages of the NBA’s offseason.<\/p>\n

Trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo finally gave Pat Riley the superstar he had been looking for years, significantly raising the team’s championship chances.<\/p>\n

However, even the best things can be improved, which is why they’ve also been tied to a move for former All-Star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan.<\/p>\n

While there’s mutual interest between both parties, Heat insider Ira Winderman reported that it might be a while before he puts pen to paper, as the Heat are in no rush to spend the few bucks they have left.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are being prudent,\u201d Winderman\u00a0wrote\u00a0<\/a>in a Q&A. \u201cAnd the reality is that spending has nothing to do with the current equation. The Heat have just over $10 million to spend on filling out their 2026-27 roster, and no more, because of their position against the hard cap. They will spend it all. But it also has to be spent prudently, instead of in haste.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Winderman added that the Heat know they’ll have to offer more than the minimum, so they probably have to do some financial juggling before signing him.<\/p>\n

As for DeRozan, he can also afford to be patient and intentional with his next move.<\/p>\n

DeRozan’s scoring prowess would help replace some of the lost depth in the Antetokounmpo trade (Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakucionis).<\/p>\n

That said, his lack of floor spacing might be an odd fit next to other non-shooters like Giannis and Bam Adebayo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
