The Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> won their preseason opener, beating the Green Bay Packers<\/a> to the tune of 28-9 on Thursday night. But the result and convincing final score isn’t what Steelers fans are talking about in the aftermath of the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rookie quarterback Drew Allar<\/a> performed at such a level that made him stand out in comparison to his teammates who also took snaps under center and triggered excitement for even the most pessimistic fan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Drew Allar showed off his total package in NFL preseason debut\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Allar threw the most passes of any Steelers quarterback, completing 10-of-13 attempts. He finished the night with 153 yards, three total touchdowns \u2014 two through the air and one on the ground, no turnovers and a rating of 154.8.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Penn State product’s overall numbers exceeded both Mason Rudolph and Will Howard’s play, even though they both enjoyed solid showings themselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, it was Allar’s poise, flashes of athleticism and ability to read his receivers perfectly, including connecting with fellow rookie Kaden Wetjen for a 74-yarder, that told the true story of his NFL debut.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
