Day 2 of the ongoing Test between India and Sri Lanka was delayed by hours because of rain. The pitch was well covered throughout the morning. To utilise the sluggishness of the track, Sri Lanka started the day with the rough ball.<\/p>\n
Devdutt Padikkal and Pant both played the old ball nicely. Rishabh scored 39 runs off 62 balls with four 4s and one six before being caught out.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Kaif raises doubts over Rishabh Pant’s common sense<\/h2>\n
When most of the batters turned their defensive mode on against the new ball, Pant did exactly the opposite. When Keshara Nuwantha ran in to deliver the new ball, Rishabh instantly stepped down the track to go big. He tried to do the same on repeated occasions before losing his wicket.<\/p>\n
“The ball didn’t turn in the seven overs that were played with the old ball today. Rishabh Pant and Devdutt Padikkal played easily,” Mohammad Kaif observed while commenting on Sony Sports.<\/p>\n
“I have no complaints about the way Rishabh Pant got out. He plays like that only, but the complaint is about common sense. It was the first over with the new ball. He jumped three times in that over. Common sense means play the cut shot. See the new ball for five to six overs. This is the Test match tradition. Whoever plays like him also uses common sense,” he added.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Kaif said that even a well-set batter would not dare to act like Rishabh Pant<\/h2>\n
Kaif even mentioned that even a batter who is on 150 will stay extra cautious in front of the new ball, which is the traditional way of playing the game. But the way Pant tried to play simply did not work and cost India a wicket.<\/p>\n
“I was surprised that he jumped on the first ball. One needs to calculate a little. Even if a batter is on 150, he also plays out a few balls when the new ball comes. I am cutting a few numbers there. He was left way behind in logic and cricketing sense,” Mohammad Kaif said.<\/p>\n
At the end of Day 2, Team India has secured a total of 446 runs against 9 wickets. Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna will start Day 3 for the team.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
