Nate and McGregor first met at UFC 196 in 2016, where the Stockton native stunned the Irishman with a second-round submission.<\/p>\n<p><template id=\"also-read-articles-template\"><\/p>\n<p><\/template><\/p>\n<p>Five months later, the pair settled the score at UFC 202. McGregor edged Nate by majority decision after five closely contested rounds.<\/p>\n<p>Their rivalry became one of the biggest attractions in UFC history. The build-up featured plenty of verbal exchanges, while both fights delivered huge pay-per-view numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Nick has also shared a long-standing connection with McGregor\u2019s story. Although the two never fought, Nick\u2019s status as Nate\u2019s older brother has kept him closely tied to the rivalry.<\/p>\n<p>Nate had also turned down an opportunity to revisit his rivalry with McGregor, according to reports earlier this year. Instead, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/mma\/news-bro-broke-whole-sh-t-nate-diaz-opens-conor-mcgregor-fight-talks-choosing-mvp-deal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">preferred to pursue a fight against Charles Oliveira<\/a> and indicated that he wanted to face top competition at its peak. That being said, he ended up fighting and losing to former UFC fighter Mike Perry.<\/p>\n<p>As for McGregor, the Irishman has been struggling inside the octagon in recent fights. His long-awaited return against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/player\/max-holloway\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Max Holloway<\/a> at UFC 329 ended after just 69 seconds when he suffered another serious knee injury. Holloway was awarded a TKO victory, but McGregor later blamed the entrance fog and argued that the result should be overturned.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the comments in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dVV0TG0jUR4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">video posted on his YouTube<\/a> channel, Holloway said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;For that dude to be talking about how it was slippery because of the dry ice or whatever, I don&#8217;t know what he&#8217;s talking about because I didn&#8217;t fall. Him talking about this &#8216;generational beating,&#8217; dude is delusional. Because, to me, he felt slow in there. He felt slow. He looked old. If there was going to be a generational beating, it wasn&#8217;t going to be on his end, I&#8217;ll tell you that much. It wasn&#8217;t going to be coming from his side.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;At the end of the day, I feel bad for the fans. It was a big event. A lot of people spent a lot of money.
