Liverpool<\/a> reportedly remain in negotiations with Brighton and Hove Albion over a deal to sign Yankuba Minteh, as per transfer<\/a> journalist Florian Plettenberg<\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After moving to AMEX Stadium from Newcastle United<\/a>, the 22-year-old initially featured as a rotational option before playing regularly last campaign.<\/p>\n

However, he has struggled to showcase his productivity in the Premier League<\/a> thus far. After making 12 goal contributions during the 2024\/25 campaign, he registered only seven goal contributions in all tournaments last term.<\/p>\n

Still, Liverpool have identified him as a serious option to replace Mohamed Salah<\/a>. The Reds have already seen their opening two proposals worth up to \u00a360m<\/span><\/a> rejected, with the Seagulls demanding around \u00a370m to let him leave.<\/p>\n

Now, on X<\/span><\/a>, Plettenberg<\/em> states that Liverpool remain in negotiations with Brighton to sign Minteh, although he is set to be unavailable for selection over the next 2-3 months due to his injury. Liverpool are keen on him as he possesses a similar profile to Salah.<\/p>\n

\u201cNegotiations between Liverpool and Brighton for Yankuba Minteh are still ongoing. Understand the 22 y\/o winger is expected to need another 2-3 months to be fully match-fit after his injury. That\u2019s the current prognosis. Liverpool still really want him, as the left-footed winger can play from the right and has a profile similar to Mo Salah.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Minteh is a left-footed versatile forward as he is comfortable on either flank. He is quick, strong, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and works hard without possession.<\/p>\n

Minteh to Liverpool<\/h2>\n

The Reds currently have Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, Federico Chiesa and Victor Munoz as options for the flanks but none of them are left-footed players.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Chiesa has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since joining from Juventus a couple of years ago, while Ngumoha is still very young and needs time to develop.<\/p>\n

Minteh is a talented player and could become a top class forward in the future. However, he is still a raw talent and there is a question mark whether he is ready enough to help the Reds achieve their lofty ambitions.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually manage to lure him to Anfield before the end of this transfer window.<\/p>\n
