While Spain will compete to earn their second straight title, multiple countries will also be competing in their first-ever FIFA World Cup. The Algeria national team reached the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cafonline.com\/caf-womens-africa-cup-of-nations\/news\/algeria-book-historic-womens-world-cup-place-after-comeback-victory-over-cote-divoire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WAFCON<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> semifinals after a comeback win over the Ivory Coast in the quarterfinals to qualify. Algeria went on to win against Morocco in the WAFCON third-place match.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team will be led by head coach <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cafonline.com\/caf-womens-africa-cup-of-nations\/news\/farid-benstiti-what-i-do-for-algeria-is-also-a-tribute-to-my-father\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Farid Benstiti<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is an internationally accomplished coach and former midfielder. Before becoming the manager of the Algeria national team in 2022, he served as the head coach of the NWSL\u2019s Seattle Reign. While Benstiti won\u2019t announce the roster until next year, Algeria is optimistic about their talent and chance to make a run in the tournament. Midfielder <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonspirit.com\/blog\/2026\/07\/23\/washington-spirit-signs-midfielder-melissa-bethi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M\u00e9lissa Bethi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a regular selection for the Algeria national team, signed with NWSL\u2019s Washington Spirit in July.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Malawi<\/b><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Db3V7o-ogv-\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\"\/>\n<p>Malawi also clinched their first <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup berth during the 2026 WAFCON. The Malawi national team, also known as the Scorchers, beat Ghana in the quarterfinal to secure their spot in the World Cup. They continued to advance until they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/espn\/story\/_\/id\/49630724\/cameroon-crush-malawi-win-first-ever-wafcon-crown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lost to Cameroon<\/a> in the WAFCON final.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Head coach Lovemore Fazili sits at the helm of the Malawi national team. He is a former member of the Malawi mens national team and is the first Malawi coach to record a win in the WAFCON. The Scorchers are led by a sister duo, Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga. Outside the national team, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/373811\/tabitha-chawinga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tabitha<\/a> is a forward for the OL Lyonnes, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascitycurrent.com\/team\/temwa-chawinga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Temwa<\/a> is a forward for the NWSL\u2019s Kansas City Current.
