We witnessed the return of two players: Julie Ertz and Sinead Farrelly, who both performed well. But we also saw Mallory Swanson, the star for the US, face a severe knee injury, leaving her future up in the air. We\u2019ll be looking forward to the USWNT\u2019s second friendly against Ireland tomorrow, and NWSL matches this weekend. So, without further ado, here\u2019s everything you need to get caught up on the past week\u2019s women\u2019s soccer news.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><b>High of the Weekend\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sinead Farrelly makes her debut for the Ireland Women\u2019s National Team \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddea\ud83e\udd79 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LnOspvyTRF\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/LnOspvyTRF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Attacking Third (@AttackingThird) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AttackingThird\/status\/1644777706821746692?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 8, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sinead Farrelly made her debut for <a href=\"https:\/\/girlssoccernetwork.com\/uswnt-vs-ireland-what-to-expect-from-each-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ireland on Saturday<\/a>! Farrelly has a history of playing for the USWNT on the youth level but was also eligible to play for Ireland. She played an excellent game, and we\u2019re excited to see more of her for Gotham in the NWSL!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Farrelly\u2019s return to soccer after six years of being away is remarkable. She left her playing career after coming out with her story of sexual abuse, which went public in 2021 and catalyzed multiple investigations into abusive coaching in the league. It\u2019s great to see the once-USWNT-hopeful back on the field and playing at a national level, and we\u2019ll also be looking to see her at the World Cup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><b>Low of the Weekend<\/b><\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CqyXfEHOOJs\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the USWNT vs. Ireland match, we possibly saw the most heartbreaking injury we\u2019ve ever seen. Mallory Swanson suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in her left knee. She was carted off the field and signaled a heart to the stadium, but this injury most likely means she won\u2019t play in the World Cup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swanson has been in the best form of her life and arguably looked like the best on the team. It\u2019s a harsh blow to the team before the World Cup and even more to Swanson, who\u2019ll miss out on some of the best playing time of her career. One of the two new teams is the Utah Royals, and the other was just announced! The 14th NWSL team will be based out of the Bay Area. The bid for the team is led by four former USWNT players: Aly Wagner, Brandi Chastain, Leslie Osbourne, and Danielle Slaton.
