According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/stats\/player\/_\/table\/passing\/sort\/QBRating\/dir\/desc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN<\/a> stats, the 25-year-old finished this past regular season first among eligible players with a 105.5 passer rating and an average of 8.9 yards per pass attempt. He was third with a 68.8 adjusted QBR.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TagoTu00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tagovailoa<\/a> also appeared in just 13 games and suffered a minimum of two known concussions. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/dolphins_tua_tagovailoa_receives_promising_concussion_update\/s1_13132_38420142\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spent over a month<\/a> in concussion protocol following the Week 16 contest against the Green Bay Packers and missed the playoff loss at the Buffalo Bills.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tagovailoa&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/nick_saban_voices_concern_for_dolphins_tua_tagovailoa_after_concussion_scares\/s1_13132_38559388\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lengthy and concerning injury history<\/a> caused some NFL insiders to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/lamar_jackson_again_linked_with_dolphins_amid_tagovailoa_uncertainty\/s1_13132_38532183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a> the Dolphins with other options such as Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/insider_revives_rumor_about_tom_brady_dolphins\/s1_13132_38547542\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">re-retired<\/a> living legend Tom Brady during the winter. Instead, Miami <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/dolphins_commit_to_tua_tagovailoa\/s1_13132_38563283\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exercised<\/a> the fifth-year option attached to Tagovailoa&#8217;s contract that guarantees him roughly $23.17M for the 2024-25 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As noted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/dolphins-qb-tua-tagovailoa-very-excited-for-2023-outlook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kevin Patra<\/a> of the NFL&#8217;s website, Tagovailoa is hoping that practicing jiu-jitsu coupled with adding muscle will help him stay healthier through and beyond the 2023-24 campaign. For now, the 2020 first-round draft pick is remaining positive regarding his short-term and long-term health.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m very excited,&#8221; Tagovailoa said about what is to come.
