Manchester United<\/a> were reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid<\/a> midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, as per The Athletic<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n The 23-year-old came into the spotlight having displayed impressive performances for Stade Rennais. After being attracted to him, Los Blancos decided to purchase him back in 2021.<\/p>\n The Frenchman has enjoyed great success at the Estadio Santiago Bernab\u00e9u in recent years, winning two La Liga titles, as many Champions League<\/a> trophies and several other major cup competitions.<\/p>\n However, Camavinga has struggled to flourish in his career in the Spanish capital, with fitness problems being one of the key reasons. He started only 23 matches across all competitions last term, making three goal contributions.<\/p>\n After failing to break into Los Blancos\u2019 starting line-up last season, Camavinga was left out of Didier Deschamps\u2019 France squad for the World Cup.<\/p>\n It was even suggested<\/span><\/a> that Real Madrid were prepared to cash-in on him before yesterday\u2019s transfer<\/a> deadline, although his existing deal is set to run until 2029.<\/p>\n Now, The Athletic<\/em> report that after purchasing Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion, United were willing to sign a player who can cover the left side of the pitch.<\/p>\n The 20-time English champions expressed their interest in Camavinga, valued at around \u00a343m by Transfermarkt<\/span><\/a>, but never made a formal approach.<\/p>\n Camavinga is a left-footed versatile midfielder as he is comfortable in the defensive midfield and box-to-box roles. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the left-back position if needed.<\/p>\n Although Camavinga has had several fitness problems in recent years, he is still very young and has plenty of time to reach his full potential. A change of environment might even help him achieve that.<\/p>\n So, he might have been a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd had they managed to secure his services.
