This past Tuesday I mentioned the erstwhile \u201cCockie\u201d award<\/a>, and lately it seems like the universe is telling me to bring it back:<\/p>\n

Though this particular specimen could just as easily qualify for a JBARA award<\/a> in the fixie category:<\/p>\n

And yes, if you\u2019re reading this you should already know that JBARA stands for \u201cJust Buy A Rivendell Already,\u201d even if the AI doesn\u2019t<\/p>\n

But I image that sooner or later it too will catch on, since it did a decent job when I asked it to design the actual award:<\/p>\n

Even though, as I\u2019ve already noted, a JBARA award is simply one of these things spraypainted gold:<\/p>\n

Speaking of Rivendell, the Farb is sporting a Silver OM-1<\/a> derailleur:<\/p>\n

I\u2019m using it with the shifters in indexed mode, and it works perfectly, though as I\u2019ve mentioned<\/a> it is not officially<\/em> compatible with them. But this is<\/a>:<\/p>\n

I suppose there\u2019s a certain irony in Rivendell offering an OM-1-specific indexed derailleur, since all of this an end run around the forced compatibility of the Indexing Industrial Complex to begin with, but it\u2019s not like they haven\u2019t been telling you to just use friction from the beginning, or like anyone\u2019s stopping you from trying whatever indexed shifter you already have first.<\/p>\n

Sorry, as a confirmed retrogrouch I\u2019m wont to lapse into defensive mode at any moment\u2013and as a recovering Fred I\u2019m just as wont to revert to integrated shifting now and again:<\/p>\n

Only to boomerang right back to friction with whiplash-inducing speed:<\/p>\n

These are the bikes I\u2019ve been riding most recently. Some might say the Cervino is equipped with some of the last true Campagnolo stuff, since it was designed while Fred Mertz was still alive:<\/p>\n

Those same people might even declare Campagnolo itself moribund, though it looks like big money is coming to the rescue<\/a>:<\/p>\n

This sounds promising at first:<\/p>\n

Campagnolo. which dates to 1933, said the new investment will bring resources and strategic expertise that will \u201caccelerate the company\u2019s transformation and further strengthen its position for the future.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Though I tend to doubt they\u2019ll be putting any of those resources towards rim brake development. More likely it will go towards the development of a 16-speed drivetrain with a suppository-style battery.<\/p>\n

In fact, we\u2019ll be lucky if they keep making parts for outdoor bicycles at all, since clearly everything\u2019s moving indoors now<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Yes, living rooms are the new gravel, though I\u2019m not sure which brand name makes me more uncomfortable: \u201cMyWhoosh,\u201d or \u201cFavero Assioma:\u201d<\/p>\n

From the 4th of October, all SRC Category 1 riders, along with Category 2 riders who have earned more than $2,000 in prize money, will be required to purchase and use approved Favero Assioma PRO RS-2 or RL-2 pedals, which come in at $789, as their primary in-game power source to remain eligible for prize money.<\/em><\/p>\n

Probably the latter, since MyWhoosh just sounds like a wireless toilet flushing app, whereas Favero Assioma sounds like the name of whoever wrote this note I saw on the subway recently:<\/p>\n
