Former Chelsea<\/a> midfielder John Obi Mikel has predicted that Manchester United<\/a> are going to sign Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton next summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After finishing third in the Premier League<\/a> last campaign, the Red Devils decided to bolster the squad by signing Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba in the recently concluded summer window.<\/p>\n

However, United have endured a disappointing start to the Premier League this term, despite facing a relatively favourable fixture schedule. Having lost to Hull City in the opening fixture, Michael Carrick\u2019s side returned to winning ways by thrashing Ipswich Town 5-2.<\/p>\n

However, they only managed to come away with a disappointing 2\u20132 draw against Everton<\/a> after Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a late equaliser for the Toffees last weekend. Now, they are set to face Sabah in the Champions League<\/a> in midweek before taking on Manchester City<\/a> in the Premier League next Sunday.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, during a live Q&A with AFTV\u2019s Robbie Lyle broadcast on The Obi One Podcast<\/span><\/a>, Obi Mikel says that despite revamping the midfield department by purchasing Santos, Tielemans and Baleba in this window, United could sign Wharton next summer.<\/p>\n

The former midfielder further states that he is a big fan of the Englishman and loves his playing style. Wharton is going to reach the top and could leave Crystal Palace next year.<\/p>\n

Obi Mikel said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI love him! I love Adam Wharton, I\u2019m a big, big fan. I think he\u2019s going to go places, though, I think next season he will leave Crystal Palace. I think they want to keep him for one more season and I see him going to Manchester United next season.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wharton to Man Utd<\/h2>\n

Having moved to Selhurst Park from Blackburn Rovers a couple of years ago, Wharton has enjoyed great success, winning a FA Cup<\/a>, Conference League and Community Shield.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is valued at around \u00a360m by Transfermarkt<\/span><\/a> and still has a contract until 2029. Therefore, the South London club are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in on him next year.<\/p>\n

Wharton is a technically gifted left-footed deep-lying playmaker but can provide cover in the box-to-box role if needed. He has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League in recent times and possesses the potential to become a top-class midfielder in the future.<\/p>\n

Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd should they eventually opt to lure him to Old Trafford next year.<\/p>\n
