Now, 25 years later, freeride\u2019s biggest competition is returning to the site of the inaugural event \u2014 where it all started in 2001. Known by competitors as the \u201cOG\u201d site, this venue hosted Rampage from 2001 to 2004 and helped establish not just the event, but the sport of big mountain freeride itself.\u00a0Plenty has changed in the quarter century since the first Rampage competitors dropped in on this terrain, and it\u2019s going to be mind-blowing to see how far the sport has progressed.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bikerumor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/SI202510171868.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/bikerumor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/SI202510171868.jpeg\" alt=\"composite image of Georgia Astle hitting a huge drop at women's Rampage.\" class=\"wp-image-398735 first-image\" style=\"object-fit:full\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Georgia Astle sending it to the moon at Women&#8217;s Rampage 2025. This change means the 2026 venue will have the longest vertical drop of any Rampage venue at +206 meters (+676 feet). Combined, the men\u2019s and women\u2019s competition zones span approximately 364,000 square meters. On that note, this will be the first time the women&#8217;s field will compete on the iconic, original venue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>Fans are going to recognize the terrain, but they\u2019re going to see it through a completely different lens<\/em>,\u201d says Belgian slopestyle legend Thomas Genon. \u201c<em>It\u2019s going to be amazing to have the chance to compete on the terrain where freeride started.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bikerumor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Mens-Rampage-Genon.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" src=\"https:\/\/bikerumor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Mens-Rampage-Genon.jpeg\" alt=\"Thomas Genon spinning off a jump at Rampage 2025\" class=\"wp-image-424889\" style=\"object-fit:full\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Thomas Genon spinning off a jump at Rampage 2025 (photo \/ Bartek Wolinski \/ Red Bull Content Pool)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Red Bull Rampage history started on this iconic venue, with Wade Simmons ultimately taking the win in 2001. That year, 14-year-old Kyle Strait competed in his first of 18 legendary appearances at the event. Strait went on to win Rampage twice, including in 2003, the first year that Cam Zink participated. Now, 23 years later, Zink is returning to the southern Utah desert to compete at the same venue that started his Rampage career.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-who-when-where\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who, When, Where?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to see who&#8217;s competing this year? The women\u2019s competition is scheduled to take place on October 8th.
