<\/a>Rodeo Labs’ new Spork 4.0 can come equipped with Dynamo Self-Connecting Dropouts, a Magnetic Connector, or even a dynamo light. You can choose any of these options when ordering a new Spork 4.0.<\/p>\n
Rodeo Labs has spent the last decade perfecting the carbon adventure fork. The Spork 4.0 is all new and built from the ground up. It supports greater tire clearance, it’s lighter, and has new brake\/shift cable routing options, including the new dynamo configurations.<\/p>\n Additionally, the Spork 4.0 has beefed-up support to handle more powerful brakes and supports both 160mm and 180mm rotors. So even though rides are getting longer and loads heavier, you’ll still be able to safely stop your steed.<\/p>\n I’m sure most of you will agree that the number of different tire sizes available, along with new wheel diameter standards (like 32″), is exhausting. That being said, change can be good. Rodeo Labs made sure the new Spork 4.0 can fit some mighty beefy tires… like 700 x 2.4 (61mm). You can even run a 700 x 38 if you wanted; I think it would look funny, though. As you can see in the picture above, a 700 x 2.0 (50mm) still looks good and proportional inside the wider fork legs.<\/p>\n Because of the new “D” shaped steer tube, the Spork 4.0 offers a wide range of routing options for your brake\/shift lines. It can accommodate fully integrated and hidden brake line routing without needing to use a big, bulky upper headset assembly.<\/p>\n The void in the head tube that’s created by Rodeo Labs’ D-shaped steer tube makes it possible to use standard headsets and stems and still keep your brake and shift lines hidden away. <\/p>\n Even if you wanted to run a semi-integrated routing through the headset and not the stem, Spork 4.0 supports that via Rodeo Labs’ Quite Integrated Headset<\/a>. <\/p>\n The Spork 4.0 also supports third-party integration systems like Chris King InRoute, Wolf Tooth, FSA, Ritchey, Cane Creek, Deda, and other brands. It’s also backwards compatible with standard headsets made for round steerers. You want zero integration? Spork 4.0 does that as well.<\/p>\n The D-Shaped compression plug is supplied with every fork and is required for every installation. <\/p>\n The Spork 4.0 is available with several pre-installed dynamo and wiring connector integrations. These options are offered to dramatically simplify the installation and use of dynamo features. <\/p>\n ADD: $75<\/em><\/p>\n The SON Dynamo hub is kinda considered the Rolls Royce of dynamo hubs. And they’ve created the\u00a0SL Self Connecting system<\/a> to make things easier. The system improves ease of use and reliability of dynamo hub systems.<\/p>\n Keep in mind, a compatible Son SL hub is required and not included with the Spork 4.0. According to Rodeo Labs, the Spork 4 is the only carbon adventure fork available at retail that allows compatibility with the Son SL Self Connecting system.<\/p>\n You can select this option during purchase. Rodeo Labs will install the Son dropout connectors on Spork 4.0 and run all of the necessary wiring out of the crown hole. If, for some reason, you would rather connect your dynamo accessory somewhere other than the fork crown, you can re-route those wires through the steer tube or elsewhere as you desire.<\/p>\n ADD: $50<\/em><\/p>\n The Spork 4.0 can also come with optional magnetic connectors. This makes dynamo connections easier when connecting dynamo headlights and dynamo hubs. <\/p>\n This system gets rid of the need for permanent connections or those tedious plug installations. With Rodeo Labs’ magnetic connector option, it provides an effortless connection and removal of your dynamo accessory. <\/p>\n Rodeo Labs says they will reach out to discuss your intended dynamo setup when pre-installing the connectors before your fork ships. Rodeo Labs also says that the magnetic connections are stainless steel and have been tested across all weather conditions.<\/p>\n The Spork 4.0 is offered in a 50mm rake\/offset. The axle-to-crown measurement is 405mm, which is 1cm taller than the Spork 3.0. This lil’ bit more height makes way for bigger tires and more mud clearance. <\/p>\n Many gravel bikes are usually designed around a fork with a 395 axle-to-crown measurement; that measurement is 1cm shorter than the Spork 4.0. So, that means that if you want to use your new Spork 4.0 on a bike you already own, there is a good chance it\u2019s going to raise your front end 1cm higher.<\/p>\n If you run spacers under your stem, you can offset a lot of the extra height by removing a single 1cm spacer. The taller axle-to-crown will also slacken your head tube angle a tiny bit, while also raising the BB slightly. This could subtly relax the handling of your bike.<\/p>\n These subtle geo changes are very small, and I’m willing to bet that most riders won\u2019t even notice them. And I bet the riders that can <\/em>discern the difference will quickly adapt within a few rides.<\/p>\n However, note that many modern gravel bikes are built around suspension-corrected axle-to-crown measurements of around 420mm. In those cases, this would actually drop<\/em> the front end by 15mm, which would affect the ride more. Although if you end up running a larger tire, that may offset things in the long run. It seems a bit odd that Rodeo Labs wouldn’t offer a version of this fork with a 420mm axle-to-crown to accommodate these bikes, which are more likely to have rear tire clearance to match… maybe in the future?<\/p>\n Retail: $595<\/p>\n “Warranty: Lifetime to the original owner against defects in design\/workmanship.
