The eight playoff contenders are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnba.com\/standings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">locked in<\/a>, but each team\u2019s remaining four regular-season games will decide seeding. Here are two potential first-round matchups topping our hoops hope list.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1\ufe0f\u20e3 Las Vegas Aces vs. NY Liberty: <\/strong>This era of women\u2019s basketball has been defined by two players: Aces icon A\u2019ja Wilson and seafoam superstar Breanna Stewart. Perennial MVP candidates (this year included), these two highlight an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@wnba\/video\/7672028411199540510\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">always thrilling rivalry<\/a> between their teams. And after splitting two series over the last three postseasons, this would be the ultimate rubber match.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\ud83d\udd2e Likelihood: Cautiously optimistic. <\/strong>The Aces <em>should<\/em> land the No. 3 spot (assuming the league-leading Minnesota Lynx and Golden State Valkyries take care of business ahead of them), especially with all four of their remaining games against eliminated teams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>That means NY would need to slot in at No. 6 \u2014 and that\u2019s where it gets tricky. The Liberty, Washington Mystics, and Dallas Wings sport matching 24-16 records, but NY has the most difficult road ahead with three tilts vs. playoff-bound squads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2\ufe0f\u20e3 Golden State Valkyries vs. Washington Mystics: <\/strong>Both teams are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/wnba\/ask\/best-wnba-team-defensive-rating-this-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defensive juggernauts<\/a>, but it\u2019s their opposite offensive styles that have us intrigued. The Valks shine <a href=\"https:\/\/valkyries.wnba.com\/watch\/video\/highlights-veronica-burton-named-western-conference-player-of-the-week-aug-24-aug-30-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on the perimeter<\/a> thanks to playmakers like Gabby Williams and Veronica Burton, while the \u2019Stics thrive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bEqYuOwgGds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in the paint<\/a> with Shakira Austin and Kiki Iriafen.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\ud83d\udd2e Likelihood: Realistic. <\/strong>The Valkyries are in the mix for the No. 1 seed, but the Lynx need just two wins to lock in the top spot.
