Real Madrid and France superstar Kylian Mbappe revealed that he nearly joined Liverpool before his blockbuster move to Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco in 2017.<\/p>\n

“I had to take a decision. And yes, I was close to Liverpool,” Mbappe told The Athletic’s Daniel Taylor<\/a>. “My mum (Fayza Lamari) was a big fan of Jurgen Klopp, and the favorite destination for my mum was Liverpool. She wanted me to go there.”<\/p>\n

However, Mbappe wanted to remain in his hometown and continue his development in France.<\/p>\n

“I didn’t listen because I wanted to play in my city, Paris. I didn’t want to leave my country before I was someone,” he added. “But yes, my mum was always saying, ‘Liverpool – you’re going to be there, playing at Anfield; it’s going to be insane for you.'”<\/p>\n

Mbappe ultimately joined PSG on loan with a mandatory purchase option of \u20ac180 million. He played seven seasons in Paris before joining Real Madrid in 2024.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the world’s best strikers. He became France’s all-time leading scorer during the 2026 World Cup and won the Golden Boot in the last two quadrennial tournaments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
