With two WorldTour races set to take place in China in October until a few weeks ago, race organisers were expecting all 14 Women\u2019s WorldTour teams to be in attendance.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">However, the Tour of Chongming Island organisers have confirmed to <em>Cyclingnews<\/em> that five teams have withdrawn from the race.<\/p>\n<aside data-component-name=\"Recirculation:ArticleRiver\" data-recirculation-type=\"inline\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Trending Bar\" data-nosnippet=\"\" class=\"clear-both pt-2 pb-0 mb-4\">\n        <span class=\"&#10; the organisers added.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-b461b45e-b759-11f1-a05e-83c6a0fe38da\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"financial-support-3\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">Financial support<\/h2>\n<p id=\"elk-b461b4e0-b759-11f1-b76d-6739be1dc74f\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">The AIGCP communication stated that &#8220;no further financial support was proposed to teams&#8221; Four ProTeams are also expected to race alongside the other WorldTour squads.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">The Tour of Chongming Island organisers added that they are attempting to invite new teams in order to make up the numbers.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">&#8220;We only received the withdrawal notifications from the teams in September, so we are now working hard to find other teams that are able to compete,&#8221; they said, adding that they are also &#8220;seeking assistance from the UCI&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">With the Tour of Guangxi Women also cancelled for 2027, the AIGCP is negotiating with the Tour of Chongming Island organisers as a minimum for next season that travel costs for 10 people are covered.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">It is not yet clear whether mandatory participation for the Tour of Chongming Island will be restored next season.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\"><em>Cyclingnews<\/em> has approached the UCI for comment.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-0d7eab54-b756-11f1-9ba6-3fc815d5207e\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-wider-context-3\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">The wider context<\/h2>\n<p id=\"elk-0d7eabcc-b756-11f1-98af-f530e9bdf2f0\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">The UCI\u2019s ruling comes as a second major blow to the end-of-season Chinese double-header, following the cancellation of the Tour of Guangxi Women.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">Severe budget cuts forced upon the Autonomous Region of Guangxi Zhuang, which funds the race, has meant that race organisers Wanda have cancelled the women\u2019s one-day race, which was due to take place on the 18th of October.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">Speaking to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/escapecollective.com\/tour-of-guangxi-future-in-doubt-as-womens-race-cancelled-for-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/escapecollective.com\/tour-of-guangxi-future-in-doubt-as-womens-race-cancelled-for-2026\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"pro-cycling\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\"><em>Escape Collective<\/em><\/a>, Tour of Guangxi race director Olivier Senn confirmed that there are no plans to hold the Tour of Guangxi Women in 2027.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">The men\u2019s Tour of Guangxi will take place in 2026 and 2027, but there is currently no contract in place between Wanda and the Autonomous Region of Guangxi Zhuang beyond that point. Organisers are confident that the race can continue into 2028 and beyond, but with a major debt crisis crippling China\u2019s regional authorities, the outlook is bleak. It is not clear whether the women\u2019s race is part of the ongoing talks.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">&#8220;The prolongation is not a given, but certainly the aim for all involved parties,&#8221; Senn said.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">Despite encouraging growth for the sport in China in recent years, it appears that the series of Chinese races that have concluded the women\u2019s and men\u2019s WorldTours for a decade is on unstable footing.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">The Tour of Chongming Island was first launched in 2007, gaining WorldTour status in 2016.
