The league posted the list on X, and it garnered backlash from fans online.<\/p>\n<p>Bethany Donaphin, Head of WNBA League Operations, released a statement online.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We are pleased to recognize this group of officials for their on-court achievements and their dedication to their craft with a selection to work the 2026 WNBA Playoffs,&#8221; Donaphin said in a statement. &#8220;Qualifying for the postseason and serving the game at this important part of the season is a goal for WNBA officials just as it is for players and coaches.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><template id=\"also-read-articles-template\"><\/p>\n<p><\/template><\/p>\n<p>One of the referees was Roy Gulbeyan, who has built quite a reputation among fans. This led them to voice their frustration over the selection of officials.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;He is gonna get someone killed,&#8221; a fan said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"sportskeeda-embed\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/us\/wnba\/twitter-embed\">\n<div class=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/us\/wnba\/twitter-embed\">\n<div class=\"profile-card\">\n<p><span><span>He is gonna get someone killed<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Most terrible ones got selected,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thoughtandhoops\/status\/2103593956223164445\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">another fan commented<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Keep Roy far away from the Fever!&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cckent22\/status\/2103592870162956434\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">one fan said<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>More fans reacted to the referees.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Please don\u2019t allow Roy to officiate any ATL games,&#8221; someone commented.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"sportskeeda-embed\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/us\/wnba\/twitter-embed\">\n<div class=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/us\/wnba\/twitter-embed\">\n<div class=\"profile-card\">\n<p><span><span>@WNBAComms @WNBA Please don\u2019t allow Roy to officiate any ATL games<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Get Roy outta here NOW,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/skuuuuuuuurt\/status\/2103600785665986640\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">a comment read<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Make sure they delete all their betting apps,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BarsandTakes\/status\/2103596266253124058\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">one fan commented<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gulbeyan has been an official for 28 years, the most of the ones selected to work in the postseason. In May 2025, he was widely discussed online after getting into a heated on-court verbal exchange with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/us\/wnba\/dijonai-carrington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">DiJonai Carrington<\/a>, who was with the Dallas Wings at the time.<\/p>\n<p>While Carrington was making her argument, Gulbeyan had a security guard step in between them. The current Chicago Sky guard called him out on X after the incident.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;security\u2026 , when i\u2019m literally having a civil conversation is insane . mind you , he called the \u201csEcUrItY\u201d over there\u2026 #Mircoagression,&#8221; she posted.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Looking at the WNBA Playoff Picture<\/h2>\n<p>The first round of the playoffs is set to start on Sunday. The first game will be between the Minnesota Lynx and the New York Liberty. New York had a 2-1 advantage across their three regular-season matchups.<\/p>\n<p>All eyes turn to the showdown between the Las Vegas Aces and the Indiana Fever, where top MVP candidates A&#8217;ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark square off.
